Dish Soap for Wax stripping?
Has anyone tried it? some say the soap is too harsh for the rubber moldings. but my rubber moldings have been looking dull with regular car soap.
I want to remove all my wax and sealants to do a really good coat before winter hits. |

You don't use dish soap period on your car. Dish soap leaves residue.
For stripping wax and sealant, use a non PH balanced soap or paint cleanser such as Chemical Guys Citrus Wash &a Gloss. The key is to use a heavier concentration as stated on the container. Griots sells Paint Prep and Pre Wax sprays as well. For normal washes, use any PH balanced Car Shampoo ONLY to wash a car.

Zaino Bros state to use Dawn to strip your car of all polishes and waxes to prep for their product. Always worked perfect for me in the past.

I would assume residue only happens when you don't dry you car properly. otherwise there shouldn't be spots of residue. ever wash a dish and dry it, it should be streak free.

Look guys, use whatever anecdotes that you wish, but anyone with any credibility will warn against using dish soap to wash your car; it's a very bad practice.
Buying a little bottle of a citrus wash is less than $10. You spend this much on a damn compact car, yet you want to argue about damn Dawn? Bad habits are all over the Internet. Use the proper products and technique and your car will stay showroom new.

I wouldn't use Dawn liquid on my car, just like I wouldn't use my car soap on my dishes. Like mentioned above, you could use a citrus wash, a clay bar, add an ounce or 2 of APC to your wash bucket and last but not least, a finishing polish ( I use Menzerna SF4000).

You left out the the most important step: Menzerna Power Lock. It's like coating the car with teflon, dust just wipes off, and you only need to wash maybe 1/3 as often as with a wax.
I don't bother to strip the Power Lock when I do my spring cleaning. I just wash the car and polish it, first with Menzerna LP 2000 and then Menzerna FF3000, then I finish it off with Power Lock. No wax, the Power Lock alone is all you need. I put another coat of Power Lock on in the fall for additional protection against winter conditions. Last edited by Billfitz; 10-09-2016 at 10:23 AM.. |

That's what polishing with LP2000 does, as well as clearing up the finish in general. I only do it in the spring, to take care of the damage caused to the paint by all the sand and salt over the winter. I don't bother to strip the sealant off in the fall, I just add to it, but if I was I'd use the same procedure.

I like them both, it the PNS was so easy to apply with the aerosol spray. Not sure why I've never done the Power Lock; everyone I know who does apply it loves it. I do use Menzerna 2500 polish before sealing my car though and it is exceptional.

I imagine the PNS and Power Lock are similar. A tip on the Power lock, don't apply it by hand, you end up using a lot more than you need to as it's hard to spread it thin by hand. Use a five or six inch buffer, with a foam pad. Apply a small amount to the pad, then use the pad to apply it to the car, just as you would with compound or polish. Apply more to the pad as you go along. There's no need to wipe it off within minutes, or even hours, so you can apply it to a section at a time or to the entire car in one shot. Switch to a microfiber pad to wipe it down. Wipe down takes almost no effort. The same applies to all the Menzerna products, even if you do decide to wipe it down by hand it's very easy.
I wipe my car every day or two with a microfiber cloth, which removes dust and road dirt so effectively that I seldom have to wash. When I do I soap it, rinse it, then blow the rinse water off with a leaf blower, which leaves very little water spotting, and what there is comes off in a jiffy with the microfiber cloth. |

I use the Optimum No Rinse Wash and Wax during winter or drought conditions. No scratches. Just use lots of microfiber towels.
