Pre Workout?

Hey all,

So I was always reluctant to try pre workout because nobody knows the long-term effects; however, today I took the dive and bought two containers of C4 from Costco. Tried 1 scoop a half hour before my workout, as per the directions, and didn't feel anything. Does this stuff actually work? Is there another brand I should try?

Thanks

Hyde or animal rage. Even jack3d is better than c4

Most preworkouts are just a ton of stimulants mixed with insufficient amounts of amino acids. Despite the hype and all the junk science, it really doesn't matter what you take, as they all pretty much do the same thing. There were things like Jack3d that had 1,3DMAA that actually had legitimate psychological effects, but it has since been banned by the FDA.

If you want proper benefits, you may want to supplement your preworkout with additional doses of tyrosine, carnitine and maybe beta alanine. You ideally want 5000mg of each, and most preworkouts have about 1500mg.

I always liked Jack3d because they dont use all the unnecessary fillers like a lot of others. Its just a tiny scoop the size of a thimble, and you're good.. But the problem that i always had with using the same ones is my body eventually got used to them and they basically didnt work anymore.

Appreciate the replies. Did 2 scoops today and felt some jitters but nothing much overall. Will prob return the C4 (thank you Costco's amazing return policy) and look into jack3d

JYM Pre Workout from bodybuilding.com. It is clean and effective. C4 is good also.

Today the 2 scoops were definitely noticeable. Whether they made an impact on my lifts or not....not sure.

I think I'll stop using pre-workout when the 2 containers of C4 run their course, which should be pretty quickly given how each container only has 30 servings. I'm not going to spend $40 ~9-10 times per year on something that may or may not be helping me. The costs add up! Most if not all of my buddies who are jacked have never used the stuff or tried it and stopped.

You can also buy pills or powder of beta-alanine. Makes you slightly flushed and tingly, great for endurance during workouts. I look for that immediately when I pick one up.

You may want to try looking into making your own. It's super easy and the ingredients are readily available. You have complete control of what goes into them and can adjust based on your tolerance and or resistance. I make my own. It doesn't taste like candy like the big brands but I can feel the effects and I know what I'm taking. Lots of recipes out there....Google.

Pre-JYM. By far the best pre-workout on the market.

It all depends on the person and what works for you. Try different ones until you find the one that gives you the energy your looking for. Some people just drink coffee to get them going. Me I have used BSN no-explode for 10 plus years on and off and it works to get me motivated enough to go to the gym after work and on the weekends.

There is no one size fits all with any type of pre workout.

I'm too on edge about loading my body up with so much caffeine (especially since I don't really drink coffee) so my ass is boring and just eat a greek yogurt with some granola and a banana before my work out.

I don't get some massive surge of energy but I don't get the massive crash I'm afraid I'll get either. I want to feel refreshed after my workout not like I'm going to fall over and die.

A good pre-workout isn't based upon the caffeine content.

For a couple years I made my own preworkout and many batches I made contained no caffeine at all. You would be surprised the results you would see from taking creatine hydrochloride, beta alanine, branch chain amino acids, and citrulline malate (pre only no post for citrulline). The only part of that formula you would notice would be the beta alanine. People new to the supplement will have a skin tingling sensation.

These are research proven for power, strength, and endurance. Examine.com will show unbiased research for each ingredient. I honestly can't imagine why someone would NOT take creatine at this point if you exercise regularly.

If you read the label of a preworkout and it has any of the following on it:

"ANNIHILATING PUMP"
"EXTREME MIND SHREDDED FORMULA"

Run the fuck away. These are trash.

Read up on Jim Stoppani. He can explain the benefits of each ingredient in his supplements and why you should take them. I have been studying nutrition/supplements for years and this guy gets it. Actually he first advocated for people to make their own supplements before coming out with his own supplement line.
