My 40th Birthday

So my 40th birthday is coming up next week (aaww yea, time to get OLD).

My wife, hates the ///M3. With a passion. She is not a car person, and this car has been the focal point of many painfully arguments (not shouting, we don't shout). Typically the result is her in tears and me frustrated. She would rather never have to drive a car (she hates cars), and would have preferred a $20k subaru wagon from like 2012. She thinks the money an M costs is silly and could be spent on better things.

So, she got me a birthday gift. A testament to how much she loves me, she found this item on Etsy. It's made really well (solid metal, think xylophone, except stronger). I can even hang it in the living room.

BTW, like 10 seconds before I opened the box I guessed what it was. She was like "how the heck did you know". It was a total shot in the dark, more of a mocking statement because I didn't think she would buy this (remember, she hates the car).

That's awesome. My wife never stopped me from building my previous drift car, but could see that after selling it years ago I was getting bored with no major hobby besides building our media room. Before I started modding the E90 I have now she said, "You know, you get quarterly bonuses. Why don't you put those in an account and build your car up? You have a company vehicle, so it wouldn't mess anything up. Go for it. I like you when you have a project going because you seem a little more calm."

She's a keeper, and so is your wife. I feel bad for guys who have wives that sabotage their hobbies or won't let them have a life of their own.

Happy 40th, see you are reaching "van" age now. Never tried the BMW angle on the van, it's usually candy or ice cream that works best with the kiddos. Maybe your target "audience" in more teen age.

Doing something you dislike to please your spouse is a very strong indicator of still being in love. I freaking HATE estate sales, but always tell the wife to let me know when to bring the truck. Haven't yet reached the stage where I can actually go and look with her, but starting to see some garages full of tools I wouldn't mind having. . .
