Hey guys, when do you guys think Transmission fluid need to be change? I heard it’s not until 100,000.
A friend of mine has a 2002 325 and he has 80K miles and he has problem with his Auto going in to reverse. I just don’t want that to happen to my car.

Its a common problem on the E46.. What kind of E90 do you have? I wouldnt keep the 328i with the GM transmission for that long, its going to need to be rebuilt.

But like a manual transmission most need a new clutch at 70k miles, well your auto might just need to be rebuilt at 80-100k miles. Especially in a higher performance car that puts more stresses on the drive train.

I'd sure like to know where you get your information? The GM transmission has an excellent track record. I have seen very few complaints about it. I have had 3 of them in 3 different cars with NO PROBLEMS at all. Making a statement like that without any validation doesn't lend much credence to it.

I have to respectfully disagree on this one. I have never put in a new clutch due to wear, and 70k is only midlife for my cars. The few that I have changed were done just because the transmission was out for other reasons.

A clutch on a modern car should last well past 100,000 miles in normal driving.

I'd have to agree. Go to your dealership, ask for a transmission fluid flush...they won't do it for you even if you want to pay for it. The fluid is lifetime in BMW's term. But of course lifetime in BMW's term is 100k miles. Techs have told me to leave the fluid alone.

I've asked this question before since I've flushed out transmissions at the 20-30k mark...and they weren't pretty looking at all.
