What is causing my steering to squeak? (Video included)

While backing up and looking out the window, I noticed that when I turn my wheel, it squeaks. I have no idea what is causing or how to fix it... any ideas?

Grease the lower steering shaft, had the same sound along with intermittent heavy steering, now my problem is gone.

Why did you use to grease it?

I just used what I had in the garage, any automotive grease/lithium grease should do. Take off your belly pan and look for the lower shaft that connects to the power steering rack. Get someone to turn the wheel as you apply the grease to the knuckle.

OP, did you resolve this issue?
I have the same noise that started about a week ago. Changing the power steering fluid didnt help.
Where exactly should I grease? I read in the forums that I should be greasing the boot from the inside (under the dash) and @BMDoublYou mentions the lower shaft(that is outside the car). Do you have a picture of general location of what I am looking for?
I plan to do the oil change soon, so I would like to do it at the same time.

I lowered the steering wheel and the squeaking went away. I don't know how long this will last, but using WD-40 lithium grease for the steering column didn't help so that's when I lowered the wheel and the squeaking went away.

I was told that the clock spring could be the problem. I watched a video of an e39 clock spring causing the wheel to squeak and when the spring was replaced, the noise went away. That's an expensive part and with labor the cost would be quite high as well because I would not want to mess around with it.

I am planning on replacing my steering fluid as well soon.

Good luck!

in the video attached the noise heard outside of the car.
The noise caused by the rubber boot on the firewall is heard inside the cabin. Steering wheel clock spring will definitely be heard inside the cabin.

True! I haven't noticed the squeak as of late though.
I will investigate it on Saturday when the temps go from 25 to 59.

Here is a TSB I found which looks like is the issue that I am having.
http://www.autoserviceprofessional.c...-the-wrong-way

TSB: SI B32 17 08

The noise is definitely there in the inside, but I can hear it from the outside too. There is no affect of the noise in the steering feel, but the noise is just annoying.

Changing the steering wheel height and forward/aft position didnt really do much in reducing the noise in my case. Will try and see if I can follow that TSB and fix it myself.
