Code reset history?

Hi all,

Posting here since its more active. I just picked up a high mileage 535xi and almost IMMEDIATELY after taking delivery it shit the bed. I drove it twice for a total of 30 miles and on the third drive CEL and Limp mode.

I thought the culprit was the clutch as there were no CEL's while inspecting the car at the dealer. I had what turns out to be faulty injectors, i thought the power loss was a slipping clutch.

Anyways, im suspecting the dealer i purchased from cleared the codes to dump the car. Is there any way to find out?

The plus side, i purchased from a (questionably) reputable dealer with a BMW next door in the same auto group. They covered a replacement HPFP already and im now waiting on hearing back in the injectors.

I doubt you'd get anywhere with the code reset history, even if you "proved" that they had reset the day you bought it.

Most pre-owned dealership tied to marquee brands tend to have a 30 day warranty on most all used cars they sell...I'd focus on exploring that option instead.

There's no way to tell code reset history, the only way you can tell the codes were cleared is if none or very little of the rediness monitors are set, but at this point its too late for that.

they already replaced the HPFP free of charge, waiting to see if they are going to cover the injectors also. if not i saw a DIY.

I only paid 7250 so def had things like this priced in, just not the day after pickup

Some ECUs such as EGS record the mileage when DTCs are cleared. My suspicion is that the DME does as well, but to date I haven't been able to locate the data.

Didn't have any luck with the codes but wound up having a ton of luck with the dealer.

Just got the car back yesterday. New HPFP, New plugs, New coil packs, walnut blast, New injectors, and they went ahead and did my rear brakes. At no charge. It's definitely no 335 but it pulls hard.

This sounds like a dealer worth recommending to others
