Can bad idler and belt tensioner pulleys cause 1/2 power issues and whine?

Hi all,

I took my e90 n54 to a popular shop and was told that it's due to those pulleys.

I've never heard of anything like that but I know some cars can be quirky.

They ran a smoke test to check for vacuum leaks and said none were found. I hinted towards checking the turbo inlet pipe and was told it's ok too. I checked the charge pipe and fmic hoses myself.

here's a video of the noise i'm talking about.

It used to be a quiet whine then I decided to romp on it then it got way louder and did the half power if I ever romp again.

any help is appreciated.

I'd do a boost leak check immediately.

Yep, generally you'll do that with at least what your peak boost target is.
