Buying a car from another brands dealership
Guys, quick question. I'm looking at a car (not naming the brand but it's not a kia) that is being sold at a kia dealership her in Socal. Is there any disadvantages when buying a trade in from another manufacturers dealership or is there anything I can use to maybe get a better deal? I just don't know.
Thanks a lot!

Say what? A BMW is also just a car like others too and nothing special at all. So give it a try and ride a new one.

Not really, pretty much just negotiate the same as if it was on a dealer lot. Someone decided to trade "x" car in for whatever the Kia dealer had. Not really any disadvantage, just run a Carfax and it'd give you the same info as if it was on an OEM dealer lot.

I purchased my 335i with 55K last May from a Lincoln Dealership for $14.9K which IMHO was underpriced with the load of crap it has which I still have no idea about haha. Negotiate, get a PPI and be happy.

The only thing I can think of is if you have any issues with the car after you buy it they will tell you to take it to the original manufacturer dealer

That is really good! I paid over $30k for a 335i with 46k miles before at CarMax. I know they are more on the pricy side, but it was the one I wanted.

So you could get a warranty from the other manufacturer as well? Wow, I didn't know that.

Did you purchase the warranty through them? CarMax cars are overpriced, however, their warranty is great. My wife and I purchased a CTS Coupe last May as well from CarMax for $23K but with only 39K miles and the warranty has already paid for itself due to some coolant/electrical issues covered by MaxCare warranty with only a $50 deductible.

That's the only thing I'm on the fence about. I'd hate to pay for a car because it's what I think I want, pay an additional transfer fee, only to test it out or sit in that particular one and find things that'd make it a dealbreaker. |

needed walnut blasting tune up (plugs/coils/fuel filter at least) I wouldn't have been happy paying a transfer fee of at least $999 to have a car shipped cross-country only to find out it has issues. |

If by dealership you mean an actual dealership and not Uncle Bob's Used Car lot - then you are fine...
We actually drove to SD to pick up a loaded 2016 e63s that someone barely used from a Land Rover dealership because we got the price down to 68k, lol... Sometimes it's worth it... |

I have had 2 cars transferred with carmax local in FL so free transfer and neither was as expected so I would be very hesitant to pay any transfer fees.
I will say my gf bought an XTS from them and she recently traded back to carmax for something else. They gave her a very good price for it, I think its because she bought it there, but it was much more than any other dealer and when they eventually listed it for sale it was listed for the same amount they gave her. So while in general carmax cars are more expensive it's not all bad. As for buying a car at a different brand dealer, no issues, I do it all the time. Usually buy none BMWs at BMW dealer lol. |

When dealerships perform maintenance on a car they are prepping for the lot, they can use their own service department. In my case, I purchased my M3 from an Audi dealership and they had replaced the wiper blades with VW/Audi blades of the wrong length and changed the oil with the wrong oil viscosity. My guess is that they are just using what is available to them. When I pointed this out to them, they reimbursed me for the cost of new OEM blades and also re-performed the oil change. I only had the maintenance invoice to serve as proof they had re-performed the oil change, but confirmed 5,000 miles later with an oil analysis that the viscosity was correct for 10W60.
Just watch out for those kind of things. |

I meant if that Kia dealer could throw in an extra warranty for the car I am looking at (which again, is not a Kia). I doubt they can and I doubt I wanna get my car serviced there.
