Bluetooth streaming

Hi,

I have I-drive with bluetooth streaming. This issue has been going on ever since I bought the car brand new from the dealer, but never really paid much attention until now. Sometimes when I use my iPhone to stream music, the music is playing on my phone, and the car says its connected to my phone, but no music is playing. I tried turning on and off the bluetooth or re-pairing my phone and it still doesn't work.

It works intermittently and it seems like it only works perfectly if I have bluetooth on before I even start the car. Anyone have suggestions why its acting up? Thanks!!

I drive a 2008 so I am not familiar with your setup but I know on mine it is for phone calls only, no media. Check your user manual

I'm would bet the issue is with your phone and not the e90. Do you happen to have another phone or device that you could also pair with the car to stream music as a test?

Correct me if i'm wrong but I believe this is a pretty well known issue that I read about in the forums a while ago.

The e9x series cannot stream music via bluetooth. It can answer calls and etc but for music, you'll have to use AUX or buy your own bluetooth receiver in order to stream music through the car speakers.

Correct me if i'm wrong though, i just remember reading this and I have the same issue with my 2011 e90 so I am buying a bluetooth receiver soon!

My buddies 2011 E92 335xi can stream music VIA BT but my 2011 E90 335i cannot. His is a later 2010 build so I believe it has the Combox option or whatever that was included in the later builds. He also has the Harman Kardon sound system and mine has the base sound system. Both cars have the NAV.

I don't really care though, BT sound quality is shit so I use the built in hard drive and an aux cable.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, but I have a 2012 so it comes with the combox streaming option. I did download the latest update online and tried to update the software and the problem still exists.

And I have tried this with an iPhone 6, 6s, and 7 and Galaxy S5. same issue still occurs

Did you actually update the software? When I did mine, I had to leave the USB in the arm rest USB for 10 minutes before it showed the update as available to update on the i-drive screen.

Mine is a 2011 and I have absolutely no problem streaming music from my iphone via blutooth. I can stream spotify or saved mp3's no problem.
Once the iphone is connected, I believe you have to select "external device" on the idrive. Can't remember the exact setting, but it's pretty much self-explanatory in the menu. This is factory setup with CIC.

Yeah, it took me about the same time to update the software and I double checked the software version with the one I downloaded as well.

Once connected, I select the external devices as well for bluetooth audio...it shows my phone as connected but when I play music, nothing comes out of the speakers even though lets say Spotify says my song of choice is playing. ODD...

Only way it would work is if I have bluetooth already on before I start my car...if I try doing it midway of a drive, no response

I just leave my BT on all the time. Turning on iPhone BT after I am already in the car is not reliable.

My Bluetooth in the car have always worked flawlessly. I remember I used to the Motorola Razor back in early 06' i was very impress how it worked.
Mine is NOT A2DP compatible therefore I cannot stream music via wireless. But newer models are A2DP and should work.

I get that sometimes. I go into idrive and make sure my phone is connected under external devices. that works for me.
