My 335is mods

Doing a few easy mods to my 335is. More to come.

First up: side reflectors. These were $20 specials off ebay and fitment was so-so. I had to trim them a bit, as they were slightly too long. Happy with the result though. The stock yellow are a real eyesore.

Edit: Not happy with the result...the passenger side has popped out half way - basically since these are slighly oversized, the two-sided tape isn't enough to keep them in place, unless perhaps you had a way to trim them with precision. A razor didn't cut it for me (pun intended). These are going to have to come off for more trimming and reapplication with new tape, or replacement. Not sure at this point.

Looks really good but there seems to be a bit of a visible gap at the bottom no?

I had these. They lasted about a year before the reflective stuff started to peel.

The gap in the bottom is common. You need to hold it in place or use heat, otherwise the natural curve of the bumper will pull away. It's really not noticeable though.

Yes, though I think it's part gap and part the reflector not sitting perfectly flush with the bumper - it's very slightly recessed. It's not all that noticeable in RL (much less so than the yellow reflector - hehe).

Thanks for the heads up. I'll hang on to the stock ones and maybe paint them...

Next up, a weight-savings mod that shaved a tenth off my 0-60 times.

J/K, this first one is not really a mod but I just had to replace the free advertising from my auto broker. Looked all over the place for CF frames and found several. But most of them were fake, or had some sort of ///M or BMW branding. We already know it's a BMW - I'm trying to keep things understated. This one seemed like the best of the lot.

Here's the mod: I've always loved the lines of the E93 but if I had one tiny complaint it was that, from directly behind, the trunk looks just a little bit too squat compared with the coupe. This perception may be a result of BMW having to put the third brake light there on the 'vert, or it may be real - not sure. I hemmed and hawed about putting a spoiler on - again, I'm trying to keep things somewhat understated. After looking around a bit I knew that the only one I would even consider was the aftermarket M3-style lip built for the E93 trunk... I was on the fence for awhile since I never really found any good pics of this lip on the E93. Plus, the shark fin on the trunk lid really had me worried that it might look "cluttered". I finally decided I could always take it off since it just mounts with tape, so I pulled the trigger. I'm very happy I did. Fitment is excellent. Love the look, it gives it just enough added height, some "buffer" for the brake light, and another interesting shadow line to look at from the rear without messing up the lines of the car from other angles.

Welp I just checked and these clear ones are still within their return window so I'm punting. I actually did want to have a reflector in this position, just not yellow. The clear was a perfect compromise and I found what looks like a different set from a different US seller so will try those. If that fails, I may have to track down some of these color-matched blanks, because the yellow ones are not going back on.

For color-matched look, I still might try painting over the stock ones because I have some holes in the front bumper from a license plate holder that I removed, and was thinking about getting one of those color-matched rattle can kits to patch that. I have had good success with those in the past. So I'd be killing 2 birds with one stone.

Thanks. Check xpert-tuning on Ebay for pre-painted. If you want it painted locally (which wouldn't be a bad idea) you could ask them for a bare one, or see if you can find the same lip unpainted somewhere else - I think several places sell the same thing. It's an E93-specific M3 style lip. Comes with 3M branded two-sided tape - the good stuff with red backing that is rated to something like 20psi of adhesive grip.
