It's not that they are too big. It's the fact that you need to run really low profile tires that seriously compromise the ride quality. Especially if your roads aren't great in your area. Then there is the additional unsprung weight that those wheels add. That weight will impact the cars handling for the worse. The lighter the wheel and tire combo, the better the performance and handling. A handful of pounds of rotating mass at each corner can make a big difference in handling as well as responsiveness and acceleration. It can also impact the MPG. A 19" wheel is a good compromise if you like the look of a larger rim. Just be cognizant of the weight of the wheels and tires. The weight and ride quality is why many people choose non run flats over run flat tires. Those who are mindful of their cars performance will choose the lightest wheel/tire combo of their liking.

Yeah they are really low profile tires. Only 30 and that is really skinny. They are really nice wheels but the ride quality and the people I live around right now would take notice of them even more than the 18's. I don't want them to be a target for thief's. Plus it's a DD and I know I would like them at first but not so much after a few trips to work.
Thanks for your replies. |

Here are a couple good articles that help explain the impacts of wheel weight on performance and handling.

I also have a 2013 328i, and I just bought a set of staggered 400m last month locally off craigslist for a great price. They were "take-offs" from a dood that ordered a new 340i and had aftermarket wheels put on at the dealership, so they had no miles on them with new summer run flats. Keep your eyes peeled for a few weeks around Seattle and you'll likely come across something you like. Not sure I've seen 404s but plenty of 400m, 403m, 398, and some 401, 413. You might want to consider 403m if you want 19". They look great and I almost choose them but decided 18" was more practical.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=575820 eta - 404 are not M rims. Last edited by Heel328; 04-02-2017 at 01:05 PM.. |

440 are not M rims, and not sure I've ever even seen a set.
Says they come on an F34, and the sizing looks a bit different than stock F30 sizes. 3er GT F34 8x19 front 225/45R19 ET 30 --- 13.45 9x19 rear 255/40R19 ET 42 --- 14.1 Typically an F30 19" rim will wear 225/40 front and 255/35 rear tires. So tires are a bit taller, but guessing they would still work on an F30 without rubbing. Offset is a bit different too, but I think would still work okay. Hah. There've been a few sets in the classifieds here lately, but you'll likely see some pop up locally too.
Here's a photo of mine after I finished installing them the other day... |

Nice. Wish I needed a set of winter wheels, but we only get ~6 inches of snow a year on avg. So I'll sell them and get ~600 of the 900 back. Not bad for a nice upgrade.
