Looking for a place in Manhattan

I'm looking for an apt/ studio in Manhattan next year as I go to school... any suggestions on location? Upper East, West, Brooklyn, Queens, etc.... This is an alternative to the shitty dorms so I'm not looking to pay over 2,000... preferably in the 1600 mark. Thanks!

im assuming u wanna live by urself? what school? 1600 can get u a really nice place depends where u wanna live.

Yeah, I don't wanna be in the middle of all the distractions... Have you heard of NYIT? Probably not.. its not very well known, but the arch school is decent and its a lot cheaper than all the other arch schools in NY (well.. out of the ones I was looking into). I was originally thinking Upper East side, or maybe midtown, but midtown is really expensive, and I can't find any good deals for Upper East side apt's unless its in the higher 100's like 130-150 which is super far from my school (Columbus Circle)

finding a 2 bedroom sublet might be a better idea for you... i dont have anything in my mind. but a lot of my friends that moved out to the city tells me they regret living out in the city the most cause of rent! lol

Yeah its a killer.... 1600 isnt even that much considering its in the city.... It would probably save me a ton of money to just get a roomie... but I don't really know right now lol..

I use to live on Roosevelt Island.. its a nice quiet place. Its considered to be the "oasis" of NYC. Its the island between Manhattan and Queens. F train stops there. The apartment complex is called Octagon..you get a indoor full size gym, a pool, concierge service, indoor garage and a nice deli in the lobby floor. I paid $1775 for all that and a 500 square feet studio.

Yeah I saw that, but the reason why its so expensive is probbaly because they have so many things.. I wished it was a little closer to the city, other than that, I guess the price is good for what you get.

I can get you an apt in a basement in Brooklyn for less than a g probably.... Check on Craigslist but I know somebody w a house so....

craigslist is so fucked up, so many hidden fees etc etc... they are almost all through a broker too... is the basement of a house? what neighborhood?

wow thats really far.. My school is on Columbus Circle (bottom left corner of Central Park), thats a little farther than I would like, but if I change my mind, I will def. let you know.. Thanks for the heads up!

I had a lot of friends that went to NYIT for animation... art...etc and all of them lives in queens. Not so bad of commute (about 1hr)....
I commute from queens to midtown for work everyday...
and with 1600 you can get a nice 2-3 bedroom apt in queens.
