I saw a 235 fit out with alcantara on a showroom floor. It looked nice. Not worth the $995 (I think) that BMW charges for all the bits, but it looks nice when new. Interesting to see how bad it wears though. I knew it wouldn't hold up on a steering wheel, but that's just poor.

But, I still love the black and blue alcantara seats:

Proof that good marketing and carefully placed buzzwords still work well at all price point levels..

He is misinformed to some extent. Yes his steering wheel looks worn, but if he simply takes a clean, wet washcloth with just a drop or two of dawn and work the steering wheel to clean it, that nap comes back. The oils, dirt and your hands gripping the wheel are compressing the nap, but it is not wearing off. Alcantara is highly durable and doesn't rub off.

I swapped my Mustang GT steering wheel for an alcantara one from the GT500 and loved that thing. Very easy to clean and make look brand new again. Once I learned what was going on I did try to make sure my hands were cleaner to slow down the process and increase the time inbetween cleanings. I sold the car with over 100,000 miles on it and the steering wheel looked new and better than the leather seats did.

Earlier this week I was set on getting an alcantara steering wheel, and then this video changed my mind. The last post...doesn't help me at all.

I clean mine every two weeks or so with a leather cleaner and microfibre cloth. Looks good as new

Very subjective topic, but if you care for anything, it'll look good for a long time.

So you are thinking that the wheel and knob in that video would come back to life with a good cleaning? I'd given up on Alcantara wheels after seeing several that looked that way, but if it is just dirty that is entirely different. I'm looking for s/t to put a little padding and grip onto my wheel - I have the stocker, and it is really just textured sensatec (one tick up from hard plastic) - on long drives it gets a bit tiresome, like a bike handlebar that starts to aggravate that nerve in the hand (my 12-year-old self wants the gloves with the knuckle holes, but adult me is still a little iffy on 'em).

You have to clean alcantara steering wheels like once a month if you have sweaty hands.

I suffer from sweaty palms, once a month it would look pretty knar, lol. Two weeks or every interior vacuum I usually run the leather cleaner over the wheel and shifter to keep it fresh. Same goes for the leather seats, if I don't wipe them down with leather cleaner, regularly, they get shiny and hard looking. Wipe them off and they're back to new state.

My last range rover sport was a ltd edition with full alcantara interior.

You don't know what swamp ass is until you have to go on a long drive with alcantara seats. I wouldn't get them again if i had the choice. The fabric doesn't breath and gives you sweaty back and everything else.

Yeah I'm constantly cleaning my steering wheel just to keep the sheen away. Considered driving gloves, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a nice leather steering wheel. (also looks douchey for daily driving lol)
