Track-tested and Bubbles-Approved, Stage II Flash

Track-tested and Bubbles-Approved, Stage II Flash

I attended a HPDE with BMWCCA today. First off, those of you who are debating whether you should participate in a HPDE, DO IT!, you won’t be disappointed. The program was very organized with some very knowledgeable instructors.

Today’s temperatures ranged from 82-88 F degrees but my car never tripped 250 F degrees, despite the flogging. However, the brakes and tires weren’t so lucky.

This car has plenty of usable power with Stage 2, more than I can safely use right now. The massive torque allowed me to stay in gear and focus on my "lines". On the straights I was hitting some very high speeds, which eventually led to a bit of brake fade. So I’m holding off on the upgrade for now and would rather spend the money on a brake upgrade.

fll335 was there with his juicebox and ran very strong. We were eating e46 M3s for breakfast. Fll335, I hope you made it to the gas station!

An Evo X ran very strong in the corners, but he had no chance on the straights. Oh and the M5 is a remarkable machine! (The M5 driver was quite surprised what the Dinan 335i could do on the straights).

In short, I'm hooked, I ordered some new tires and I am researching brake kits.

Nice! Sounds like a good time. So about the brakes, guess you are going to have to go for the Dinan Brembo Brake Kit?

Yes, this was a one day school event. What is your brake upgrade?

Or, just think about the caliper kit that Rotora offers.
Upgrade your calipers and use the same rotors.

That's what I did, and it's completely awesome.
It's much more affordable, and you come extremely close to the same performance.

Its nice to hear that your car held up well under track abuse with the flash.

As far as brakes go... you may want to try swapping out your pads and changing your brake fluid to something with a higher boiling point (ie. motul or ATE) before dropping the coin on a BBK. With that said, I'm not sure what kind of track pads are available for our cars yet since I haven't researched it.

You may want to consider this option that Magna3 is using. It hard to justify a brake kit with street tires.

I am installing this setup next week with new rear stock pads which are fine and p-zero tires when they finally get here.

Axxis Ultimates are great, but nothing like that will come close to the 6 piston rotoras.

There nice but only help with modulation and spread out the heat. The stock brakes are really good but the pads are just limited. 80% of the problem is the pads and better rotors get rid of the heat quicker so they should be great for street tires. It just alternative solution so one step up befre you go big.

I really don’t like the brake pad selection for the BBK.

This clip puts it in presepective: http://www.imeem.com/groups/rtTC--jw...o_drive_a_van/

I'm thinking about some brake pads and a book on how to heel toe

Glad you made it to a station, I expected to see you stranded somewhere on beeline.

I'm already planning the next one. You in?
