Aftermarket Warrantee
Hi all
I am staying in Cape Town, South Africa and need some advice. I have read a few of the threads wrt aftermarket motorplans but a few are saying to keep the money saved instead of spending it. I have got a 2012 F30 320d A\T paddleshift Sportline with 162 000 km (100 000 miles) on the clock. Still got about 2yrs of financing to go until the car is paid off and want to keep the car as long as possible as it drives very nice. Before the 100 000 km (60 000 miles) was due I got offered a TTS Warrantee (offered by www.traficc.co.za) from Donford BMW as an alternative to the BMW motor plan because of affordability. It will expire on 17 June 2017 if I decide not to renew. In the 62 000 km I replaced all the tires and all 4 shocks at 140 000 km (87 000 miles) with normal 15 000 km (9 000 miles) oil changes. Nothing else was required and I spent about R28 000 (US $2190) in total for that as its not covered by the policy off course. The attached picture is what they cover and I fall under plan C because of the high mileage. I mainly do a lot of daily driving to work and weekends I just drive for the fun of it. I want to know if it's worthwhile to extend as they want R12 000 (US $1000) for the following 2yrs to cover. If I claim I need to pay for the diagnostics first then the report will be sent to TTS to decide to pay or not. Thanking everyone's feedback in advance |

Everyone has opinions on extended warranties, at the end of the day it is like the Dirty Harry Movie, do you feel lucky punk....
It sounds like your car has not given you any problems. I did not have the extend warranty and my car it is now 10 yrs old and I do most all my own work. I had the standard BMW issues, like water pump failures, oil leaks, and a few other minor things. I take good care of my car so I am not expecting any major issues with the engine or drivetrain where the most expensive repairs show up. If $1000 gives you piece of mind then you might want to spend it. However, I am not sure how to read that chart not sure what those numbers mean next to each item. $1000 for 2 years of coverage doesn't seem too bad if I'm reading the chart right...that it will cover all those items under plan C to that amount, if the repairs go over you cover the difference. Like Maestro said, it's what kind of risk you want to take.

Deductible? Exclusions? The process of collecting and how likely they are to try to get out of it?
I am generally against extended warranties as most will come out behind on them, that's how the companies can afford to pay sales people, advertising, other overhead, the claims, and still make a good profit on them. I also don't want to deal with warranty companies and the process and hassles that many of them create to not pay the claims. If you like the security of having it and don't want to or can't deal with the risk of a failure outside of warranty you should consider it.

Thanks gents, I decided to extend for another 2yrs with Donford BMW in Stellenbosch, Cape Town in South Africa. I contacted other extended motorplans but they just took my number and didn't even call back.
I wanted not to extend but because I'm doing 18 000 miles in a year and also drive to other countries from South Africa (Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola), I decided to go the safe route as they cover me there as well. At the end of the year I'm planning on doing 6500 miles in a month with another long roadtrip that I love. Thanks again. |
