M240i ARRIVED!!! with wrong color wheels

Hi everyone!

My salesman just texted me and my car has arrived!

-2017 M240i Estoril Blue II
-8 Speed auto RWD
-Nav
-Cold weather
-Black grille
Heres the thing...I ordred the regular silver 436M wheels and from the picure it looks like the Orbit Grey color. I have not said anything to the sales man yet? What should I do about this? I actually like the Orbit Grey too so I can easily live with it but it's not what I ordered......

On a side note, I am getting the car optioned as stated above for a selling price of $45,005. Do you guys think this is a good deal?

Your wheels look great - I'd keep em. Good to have another M240 in Michigan.

I think they did well for you! Those wheels look great with the side window surround trim and the kidney grilles. If it were me, I'd point out the wheel mistake and as a result the silver wheels are not present to coordinate with the silver side mirror caps. To resolve the issue without replacing the wheels, ask the dealer to paint the mirror caps either Estoril or Black, as they now look more like a mis-match. That would be a major win in my book all around!

Point that out when picking it up. They might be able to switch or (more likely) could give you some $ to take it as is.

Thanks for the reply I didn't even realize the mirror caps were silver!
I always thought they were the color of the car.

They are....if you order a silver car!

With a well-planned discussion, you can certainly wind up with the best overall outcome. And, another welcome to Michigan for another great looking 2!

That dealer looks like the store in Ann Arbor??

I would do this - appear upset enough about the wheels to make them want to make you happy, but not so upset that they actually change them (if it doesn't matter to you).

Hi everyone...just did some quick research and it looks like ALL colors of the 2017 M240i have the silver color mirror caps. I didn't know this until now!

And, you now have some leverage to have the dealer correct what BMW Design Office got so wrong (IMHO) as a trade-off for accepting the darker wheels!

If you want what you ordered, insist they swap the rims. This is very easy to do and should be done in a few days, at most, if they have to wait for the silver rims. They might even have them in stock. I seriously doubt they will give you any grief over fixing this error.

To each his own, but I just test drove an estoril with the black rims and I don't care for them.

THIS. That would be the most important thing to check. Also you will love the darker wheels once the pads start to do their jobs...aka make a damn mess while slowing you down.

That happened to me too. Turns out that during that month you could only get Michelin Pilot Super Sports with the orbit grey wheels. The dealership gladly swapped the wheels with another M235i on the lot before I drove off.

Because it's the second generation of the color. BMW used to offer this color a while ago, then pulled it since it was solvent-based and ultimately wasn't very eco-friendly. I think they reintroduced it in 2009 or 2010 as a water-based paint. The colors are pretty close, with the newer EB being slightly darker.

After ordering the darker wheels I have found that I like the car a lot better with a silver/light color wheels

I cant see the wheels when I'm driving the car so it doesnt really matter though

I have a 2016 228ix vert Estoril/Oyster with the orbit grey rims. They look great and get lots of compliments. They hide the brake dust better than silver. CAUTION watch out for curb rash unless your tires have an extended protector on the sidewall. Rashed mine twice and it costs $150/wheel to repair. I am having Alloygator gun metal grey rim protectors installed on Friday. The pics of the protectors on their site blend in perfectly with the wheels. Best of luck with the new ride. Awesome looking.

Yikes! I hope mine doesn't come with the darker wheels. I vastly prefer the lighter Ferric Gray. To my eye, the dark wheel just doesn't work with the Estoril Blue, but it's a very personal thing.

Congrats on taking delivery!! I'm hoping to get mine in about two weeks.

It's entirely up to you whether you want to keep them or not. If you keep them, have the dealership throw something else in (painted mirror covers or CF's if you can swing that..unlikely though, but hey, no harm in asking).

Do ensure that the car is sporting the tire setup you ordered. All seasons are a "square setup", summer's are staggered. If not, then a wheel swap would be in order if you can't live w/o the staggered setup. Bear in mind that if you ordered the staggered setup and got the "Square" instead, your speed limiter is set to 130 rather than 155MPH. Not that is should matter (I have a "Square" setup on mine and rarely need to go over 129 MPH). (with the "square" you can actually do a true tire rotation when necessary).

FWIW. I have the supposedly "Silver" wheels on my EB and they still look dark to my eye.

Dark wheels look like steelies from a distance. Dark wheels bring out the brown in tires. Dark wheels make the wheels look smaller and the wheel gaps look bigger.

IMO, it cheapens the look.
