M Performance Suspension Settings?
Anybody tried different settings from default on M Performance Suspension?
I'm considering soften up rear a bit to improve traction.

I have the compression set on full soft on all 4 corners for a better ride quality during daily driving. I don't intent to drive like a maniac or make sudden turns on public roads. When I hit the tracks, I adjust the compression them back to "default" settings to help smoothen out the weight transition through corners. It all depends on the road course I'm driving in that would determine if I added more or compression and or rebound. Its hard to say what suits your driving style best.

I'm running 1 click harder compression on all 4 corners from default. And softened rebound by 2 clicks in the rear for some additional compliance. Car moves around now under power it's kinda fun |

Ok, I must be an idiot. With that said I have a 2017 M2 PE that came with the M Performance Suspension. To me the car sits about as high as stock, I would like to lower it using the supplied wrench, I have had coil overs before but the BMW stuff has these damn locking rings with a set screw to secure them, which other after market coil over don't have. I did come across some instructions that says to dismantle the locking rings held in place by a set screw, which to me means remove them, but then goes on to say, after setting the height, re-torque the locking ring to 1-2 Nm, which leads me to believe that dismantle means unscrew the set screw. I just don't want to go through the trouble of figuring this out with no real guidance, I have searched and came up empty as far as helpful information goes. So help please! Thanks.

Mine appears to have a separate black ring that says M Performance with the plastic adjuster above it, the front may be as low as it can go. Does the rear, which seems to sit higher have a similar set up. I need to take another look. Thank you for your response.

Here are some pictures showing the locking ring, that the above picture does not show , nor so with the BMW supplied ad photos of the suspension.
The front locking ring I can loosen and spin it down, but the rears have a spacer that precludes it from being lowered further. I guess I will pull the rear springs and remove the spacers. |

Removed those rings in the rear today. None of the photos of the BMW M2 MPerformance suspension shows them in the kit. Mine is a PE so I suspect this was port installed, and since it was a BMW function and for some unknown reason, the only adjustability would be to raise the ride height. So I yanked the rear springs figuring i would loosen the set screw and remove the spacers. Again for some unknown reason they used tamper proof set screws, with no opening to insert any kind of tool. I used a cutting wheel on a Dremel and made a slot, and easily loosened the tamper proof set screw. Did the rears first as figure they would be the most challenging. So that's the low down, (no pun intended).

Again, since it was port installed, I suspect BMW installs them for liability issues, or maybe DOT regulations. As I stated I have not seen them mentioned anywhere or pictured in any literature, but the fact is they were there. Maybe someone with a PE M2, or someone with a port installed M Performance suspension can take a peak and confirm.

To clarify... in this photo you have lowered BOTH the front and rear from the "factory" MP suspension settings?? Can you provide a before picture for comparison by any chance?
Deciding between the MP suspension and KW V3..not sure which way to go at this point, but need to decide soon as my order will be fixed in a week from now and I won't be able to make any changes. |

While the M-Performance is adjustable I think even at its lowest setting it is still not as aggressive as many of the aftermarket coil over offerings, the KW V3 included, so if you are looking to go lower then my car the M-Performance system while a nice set up may not offer the ride height you would be looking for. BTW I love how the M-Performance suspension feels and it is turned by BMW so that may be something to add to the positive column of the equation. |

Also, what is your ride height setting for the picture posted above? How do I communicate this type of stance to the guy who installs my coilovers? |

Once I removed the spacers, I just cranked the adjusting ring as low as they would go. I don't know if the KW V3 is the same as M Performance is the same. But if you do end up with the M Performance system, just tell the installer to set the locking rings as low as they will go. I do t think you will have an issue with the spacers as from all reports they are not part of the aftermarket kit, and are something that is port installed by BMW to prevent tampering and legal issues. Hope this helps.

I don’t think my car has those tamper proof rings. I’ll have to double check.
That said I personally wouldn’t max out the adjustment rings in fear of preload / earlier bottoming out. Most coils perform the best in the middle of the adjustment range from experience. Have you tried playing with compression and rebound ? |
