Built in BBQ - brands?
Need to replace old turbo select BBQ. Any opinions on quality brands that I should look at? Has to be 36" and prefer 3+ burner and rotisserie. Would like to stay under $5k.
Many thanks |

$5K???
Even a Weber summit series with four burners will be near half that. Mine is 13 years old and looks brand freakin new, i am staggered how it has held up. Only issue is low heat in the middle of the burners, i figure they need a clean out. |

Infrared, rotisserie if you do this, is it built in or free standing? 5k is a lot of bbq. I'm going to do an island but probably spend 3k or so on a quality 42"

My Firemagic has been awesome, found a floor model that was affordable. Lifetime warranty on the brass burners. There's a thread on the old gardenweb forums (now Houzz) where someone analyzed all of the burners side by side. I think Lynx was the other ones he liked.

I can't recommend what to buy buy can let you know I am not crazy about the LION grill I bought almost 2 years ago. The online reviews were very solid before buying. Mine is on a cart but it is the same unit for built ins - just on a cart.
https://www.bbqguys.com/lion-premium...saAlXBEALw_wcB My disappointment stems from uneven cooking temps all over the grill and general difficulty in regulating temps even after using it for almost 2 years. Additionally, even after buying the ceramic "flame tamers" they recommend I get more flare up than I'd like. I think all grills have hot and cold zones but the temps vary too widely on this grill, particularly from front to back, making it difficult to cook a lot of food at the same time even with enough space to theoretically be able to do so. I will say the overall build quality is very solid. I think it is more of a design thing than build issue.

Lynx or Alfresco is the best. I would not get the infrared sear zone if you are going 36 because it takes up too much space in the grill.
The best bang for your buck is Coyote grills. Kalamazoo if you have the budget. I would stay away from Viking, Wolf, Turbo, Fire Magic.... cheap grates, poor construction and inconsistent heat zones. I've built many backyard kitchens with so called "high end" grills but nothing really beats the 4 brands I listed above. Currently in the process of doing a new kitchen with an Evo Grill, 54" Lynx with single sear zone with a chain rotisserie and a pizza oven.

I bought a Napoleon at my last house and it was really a nice unit. Infrared, etc. Would buy again no question.
However, now living in a salt environment, the only grille I’ll buy here is portable and cheap because they all rust through too soon. |

my Fire Magic has been fantastic, not cheap (pretty close to your stated budget), I'm sure there are grills that are as good, but I doubt there are any better.
I went with the intention of buying a Lion, but the Fire Magic was next to it. Side by side there is no comparison. I use my Fire Magic at least 3 times a week. That being said, I also have a cheap Huntington grill that I got from OSH 9 years ago, it doesn't get used as much, but it sits outside (with a cloth cover) all year and gets buried in snow every winter and its just fine too ( I just replaced the grates last summer). The big difference between using a 'nice' grill and a 'cheap' grill is heat control and flare ups. You have to try to get a flare up on the Fire Magic, and the heat is much more even. |

We have a wolf tbat we really like. 42” built in with searing burner and rotisserie. After a few years the only change I would make is I would have gone for the 52” unit. We use the bbq often -several times a week year round and on the daily in the summer.
Also don’t put it against house. Build and Island at least 3 feet from house. The smoke keeps staining my house. Pain to keep painting. May put a ss plate or larger granite back stone to make cleaning easier. Last edited by jsf721; 08-26-2021 at 06:41 AM.. |

i second Firemagic.. works great! I was going to do Wolf but i found that Firemagic has more matching accessories and i didnt want to mix and match. I also checked with few vendors who service BBQ's in general and their recommendation was either Lynx or Firemagic.. least amount of calls on these, time will tell.

I have a standalone grill from Wilmington Grill. Completely made from 304 stainless steel. It is a fantastic grill IMO. Lifetime burner warranty. Simple and effective. Designed for beach houses to not rust out.
They make a "Drop-In" series of grills. And make custom installs. Not sure of the pricing for the Drop-In series. https://www.wilmingtongrill.com/ |

no, that's a cutting board with an opening which dumps directly into trash bin below.. i got a flat top accessory for the grille which is amazing so there was no need for separate flat top.

I have the flat top accessory but if I had to do it again I’d get a separate flat top. My kids love my version of the shake shack smash burger.
