Glen Campbell - R.I.P.

So sad today to hear of the passing of singer, songwriter and actor Glen Campbell.

Glen was best known for a series of hits in the 60's and 70's and appeared in the original version of the film 'True Grit' with John Wayne.

This is probably a thread for 'senior' members of the forum but if you grew up listening to his music you cannot fail to be touched by the sad news.

R.I.P.Glen.

Very sad indeed.

The news broke yesterday actually and I had been listening to Wichita Lineman only that morning. Weird.

Or the younger ones whose parents liked Country and Western!

Rhinestone Cowboy brings back a lot of memories of road trips as a kid belting out our own renditions of it, but Wichita Lineman is one of my all time favourites being of a more melancholic style that I prefer.

And with a name like Glen Campbell, he's clearly as Scottish as they come...

That's so strange as I rarely listen to my vinyl collection only last week I listened to the album 'Twenty golden greats' - as you say weird!

Spooky, but I downloaded his greatest hits just a few days ago, and have been enjoying listening to all the tracks. Great artist sad loss.

Glen Campbell's music triggers many a good memory.

His latest album release Adiós, (this year), to my mind is up there with some of his best.

"Funny How Time Slips Away" with Willie Nelson, brilliant.

So you think we caused it?

Some downloading, me listening on Deezer in the car....

Sudden burst of royalties he couldn't cope with.

Respect to the master - RIP.

Unfortunately I understand he'd been suffering from Alzheimer's for quite some years so I don't think you need to worry too much!

His music always invokes fantastic memories for me - an 8 or 9 year old me cycling to my Grandparents' house and finding my Grandfather smoking his pipe in his conservatory with some C&W playing, taking a break from tending his huge garden. More often than not it would be Glen Campbell playing.

It was always sunny and warm back then in the early '80s, strange eh?

RIP Glen, some great songs and Wichita Lineman is incredible.

I can echo your thoughts on the summers in the 70's and 80's. The summers these days are lousy. I loved listening to Glen Campbell since my dad first bought Rhinestone Cowboy on Vinyl 7". Happy days and RIP to Glen Campbell.

As a youngster in the 70's, I never was much a fan of Country & Western, but bought his live album of a 69 concert in New Jersey, mainly because the money from my paper roundcould be put to paying for albums from my Aunties Mail Order Catalogue. Bloody hell that takes me back.

Galveston & Wichita Lineman being particular favourites. At least we got to enjoy his and Jimmy Webb's musical qualities.

Alzheimer's is a horrible affliction. My Mother in Law has it, she can't remember what she said or did a minute ago.
