Wastegates
Hey guys I'm Cory. I'm new on this board. I just got my 335i BMW a few months ago and i got a tune of it and a cold air intake. I want to up the boost but I'm buying a better intercooler and a new wastegate. I want to know whats the best wastegate to get for the car?

Look I don't know if your fucking with me or something but, I don't know t much about these cars and about turbos. All i have delt with are my other two cars which one is a supercharged 03 Cobra and my soon to be built 02 Camaro as soon as i get the time to put the motor in it. I bought my BMW for my everyday car and i thought it was a turd so i decided to do a few things to it to satisfy me but, what i need to know is can i use the stock wastegate or do i need a new one? If so can you recommend one to? I would appreciate it!

The stock wastegates should be fine with a tune, the problem that some members have is the actuator rod, but that seems to be isolated as defective part...Right now there is no replacement aftermarket wastegates or turbos for that matter...

What kind of power are you looking for? Do you want a local tuner? What psi are you running right now? There are many questions you should ask yourself before deciding....

I think he means blow off valve when he is saying wastegate... it is common on our cars to replace the factory blow off system with an aftermarket blow off valve.
A lot of times people will call the blowoff valve a wastegate out of confusion... the wastegates are internal to the turbo's, you cannot change them. The blow off valves, or diverter valves, however can be replaced, there are many kits... Forge, AA, UR, etc. |

Right now I don't know what version ECU you have...The newer models produce now with MSD81 cannot be tune as of yet because of the software...The software monitors if the car has been modified in anyway, and it would void your warranty...The older ecu MSD80 without program 29.2, are all safe to mod without detection...Look up the threads and read into it...Thats all I can say and help u for now, but from what it looks like you might have the latest DME, and I think tuning it now is not an option for u right now, until the tuners get a solution to the new ECU's and programs! |

you need to find out what DME you have first...MSD80 or MSD81...thats the first thing you need to find out...Finding out means pulling the ECU out and checking the back label on it!

If he has the new DME MSD81, I don't think the JB2 will work for him unless he wants to totally void his warranty at the dealer!
