Digital vs standard gauge cluster
Anyone have info on the difference between the digital gauge cluster (exec pack) and the standard one? Any photos out there?

You check the German or UK configuration websites?

Here in UK we have SE, xLine and M Sport. Latter has what BMW call "Semi-digital Cockpit" as standard. I imagine this is equivalent to M2 LCI dash with the backlit dials. The optional full "Digital Cockpit" is as described.

M2 LCI style dash is perfect. I really don't like the full digital. I'll have to hunt around euro BMW sites to try and find pics but of course most pics are of the full kitted cars.

It looks to me to be the same as the one in the new 5 series (much of the rest of the interior looks similar, if not exactly the same). The "dials" in the lower corners have a similar swoop to them, unlike the 6WB in the X5. I spent some time at my dealership this past weekend in a 5 series thinking that the X3 will be pretty similar. If so, it's pretty nice. Some nice depth with the dials outlined in some sort of protruding edge, so it doesn't just feel like a flat screen.
Here is one from the 5 series: Here is the one on the new X3: And the new 5 series interior: |

Yeah that looks pretty similar.
I've been going to the showroom to look at the interior of the 5s to imagine what the 3 would look like. I think they are pretty similar |

Just a money grab from BMW you have to get the professional Nav to get not only digital cluster but large idrive screen. The Velar you can just tick digital cluster on its own, Porsche give you one screen only.

IMHO, it's pretty disappointing. Having a screen there gives you the opportunity to basically use the space for anything, but for whatever reason BMW has basically done nothing with it and just mimics, more or less, a non-digital display. I was hoping it would be more like the Audi/VW digital display that would duplicate the nav screen/directions and entertainment details depending on how you configure it, including dynamically changing the sizes/types/locations of the virtual dials. Not that it's essential, but it's a nice touch that makes it slightly more worth the cost. Honestly, I can't see the BMW version really being worth any extra cost.

I think they are interesting but I didn't have to have them unlike my hunt for icon headlights in my 30i build so I had to get the exec pack.

So the standard dash looks like it's still 80% digital with digital needles and other stuff but the digital dash is all digital. I'm pretty disappointed and might pay for the full digital dash instead of the half-assed gauges.

What I don't like about the new digital dash is that the consumption meter isn't standard, so you have to choose between having consumption info or the trip info...

For UK, SE and xLine come with analogue dials, M-Sport comes with semi-digital cockpit and M40i comes with digital cockpit. All non M40i models can spec digital cockpit.

With the G01 BMW has really decided to fragment what option is available where geographically.

I posted some pictures on the "M40i Delivered" thread that show the Standard displays. I have been pleasantly surprised at how good they are--and they also change with different modes. The numbers on the speedometer and tach are the only part that are not digital. At this point, after seeing things, the only part of the Exec package above the leather that appeals to me would be the surround camera view, and that would only apply when I'm parking in tight spots, which I try to avoid for other reasons. |

I was comparing it to those that also are getting the Parking Assistance package (700) + leather, the the dynamic cluster is "only" $150 more. I think my dealer would kill me If i made another change to the build LOL. I also don't want to mess with my Build date of Wednesday. If it doesn't go into production for whatever reason, then I will have some serious debating over the weekend. |

I know its a completely different car but wonder if the same principles apply. On the 6 series digital dash you see the tip but get the consumption on a moving bar on the bottom of the rev counter.

I have the partial digital display in mine and like it a lot. From what I have seen in the full digital dash, I prefer the partial. As others have said BMW did nothing to take advantage of the full digital and I actually think their implementation sucks. I would expect they are waiting for the X3M to take full advantage of the new digital option.

I doubt BMW will ever go like full Audi crazy with the digital dash. BMW has always made their instrument clusters pretty simple and non-complicated. I can't see them every doing something like putting a full navigation map on the dash. They'll probably do that by way of the HUD first before filling up the instrument cluster like that. Maybe at most put simple things, but nothing complicated - at least that is what I think. Their dials have changed very little over the years.
