Do Any of You Guys Ever Receive Your Packages Opened?
So I just got a package today which happened to be my intercooler. The top of the box where the shipping label and tape is, is pretty much slit right open. The shipper was FedEx.
Do shipping companies have the right/obligation to open your packages or something? Has anyone else experienced this? I experience it quite regularly with FedEx. I'm not sure if it's a delivery person problem because this issue dates back several years over the course of several different addresses I've lived at. And forget about the post office...if it's anything that looks like a check or credit card, that is guaranteed to be slit open. Is there anything I can really do about this? It seems accountability is very limited in these situations. |

Mail that I receive that look like they contain gift cards, credit cards, or checks are almost always torn open in some fashion just enough to peek inside

Sooo FEDEX is in the same doghouse as USPS with you?
then why use them for years at various addresses ? And your assumption of USPS and packages is ..... BS ? and time dates the remarks mentality to 50 yrs ago! (regarding letters) USPS is as much automated (if not more) as Fedex or UPS who also has some theft issues, but you already knew that.........right?

The only theory I have is thanks to them manhandling your packages (pun kinda intended), it creates a slit in the tape (the kind of tape that you have, not the kinds with little fibers in them although the glue for them is garbage sometimes, but that's another story). If pressure is applied to that slit, it tears itself open... In fact, my lazy way of opening boxes is to cut the ends of the tape off, make a slit in the middle, punch it to expand it, then tear it open.

Did you buy it directly from the manufacturer or from a distributor? Some sellers open boxes and check products before shipping. If there's damage and they send it to you, they eat the shipping costs. If they catch it before it goes out and return it to the manufacturer, the manufacturer pays shipping.

I work as a courier, loss prevention is the only one who should be opening a parcel. That being said, things break open all the time. Could be poorly packaged, falls off the conveyer belt, too many heavy boxes stacked on top.

Nope, but I've seen partials due to shipping damage or if crappy tape was used.

I'm sure it has happened but I don't recall any specific case and certainly it isn't common. Maybe you are on a double secret watch list shared by USPS, UPS and FedEx and they feel a need to monitor your shipments.

Australia checking in, but I had a seller misrepresent the value of a commercial quantity of a product I was bringing in from China.
It made it appear as though I was trying to avoid paying import duty/taxes. For about 2 years after that, every package I got from overseas was opened (in Australia, we get a lot of deliveries from Asia). Packages can be opened for inspection for tax purposes, but also security. I would have thought you yanks love that. The way you have embraced overzealous airport security, that surely extends to packages. |

Like i said the mentality is again in your comment. The majority of places give you shipping options! (or call them) BUT If you read an above reply TAPE is a KNOWN 75% contributor to pre opened boxes. If you have noticed the majority have stopped using fiber reinforced tape, and are using too thin, too cheap cellophane. But you already knew that ............. right? IF you get packages opened, photograph it and take it to the shipper and finish opening it and inventory it in FRONT of them. Thats the way its done. Or go on line and claim they are stealing your stuff, and anyone who doesn't agree has facial issues. But you already did / knew that ............... right ....... or should i expect something about my Mother next?

But since your latest reply was much more helpful, I thank you for that. Most of what I receive is not indicative of tape or sealing issues. They are apparent of someone either blatantly opening or smashing the package in such a way to gain a peak of what's inside. Thank you for the suggestion of taking pictures and presenting to them. I guess I will have to start doing that and sending them to corporate. I have once taken delivery of a package in a similar state directly picked up from the FedEx store. My immediate reaction was wtf is this. I was not allowed to open the package fully to check if everything was there without first signing and accepting it. The guy at the counter looked at me and clearly stated "I didn't do it, I didn't take anything from your box." Smh |

Especially automatic assumptions that specific employees, but not others are stealing YOUR purchases. You have options to call and use other package carriers everywhere! You have options to read the fine print OR CALL on what to do if you receive damaged or opened packages! You stood at the counter and accepted the open package! Then complained about it . . . on line! Educate yourself . . . then bitch ! Maybe its the other way around ass a 9 statements get ass a 9 replies !............................................i'm outta here you can talk about my grandma now.
