Some of you people are ridiculous

Have you never modded a car before? There has always been, and always will be a risk when it comes to your warranty with any car company. This isn't anything new... for the people that are so scared suddenly about losing your warranty: what the hell were you thinking before all this doomsday talk? If you went to the dealer with all your mods on you ALWAYS ran a risk of them messing with your warranty. There are some mod friendly dealers, and very unfriendly dealers. It is like this for every car manufacturer.

Seriously this whole situation cracks me up. Am I the only one that thinks this all this talk is hilarious and getting out of control?

Totally agree that it's getting way out of control, but you have to understand this is majorly due to how damn strict BMW is about visual evidence.

I went into my Lexus dealership catless with headers, intake, exhaust, a larger throttle body, a cam gear, etc. and got ZERO complaints as long as I didn't throw a CEL. Not to mention that the exterior of the car was modded heavily with Stoptech brakes, a full body kit, etc. It was obvious much work had been done to the car. The day a family member brought the car to the dealer without my knowing, thus not giving me time to clear my codes, part of the car's warranty was instantly voided due to the CEL. Luckily I was literally 1 month away from the end of my 4 yr. warranty

At this point, how would you NOT be pissed/concerned if you were told you had to take off a freaking INTAKE to minimize mod speculation?!

Having to take any engine modification off every time you hit up the dealer gets ridiculous and people hate having to do so - especially on a PURCHASED car. Luckily with the 335i it is relatively easy, and depending on which tune/parts you have installed, literally takes no time at all.

It's just a pain in the ass, but obviously you have to pay to play. Also, modding a ~$20k turbo engine, which has been known to have issues, is a huge ordeal. An NA engine would be a completely different story. So far I have been problem free and hope to be in the future.

The bottom line is that people need to stop getting so paranoid and do what they have to do, as I have. Read posts, keep up with news, and hope that your car keeps running flawlessly as it has. Ride the paranoia curve out, or go get serviced at an independent shop.

Problem is more than half of the people on here can barely afford the car let along spending more money in the mods and the repair bill as a consequence of the mods. But they do it anyway because they have to be faster than the guy next to them at the red light.

oh this just reminded me of that episode of southpark where they spoof all the movies where a teacher goes into an innercity school and changes everyone's life. anyway, cartman is teaching all of the ethnic kids how to cheat because that is how white people get ahead in life. a girl gets pregnant, and cartman talks her into getting an abortion because that's how white girls cheat pregnancy so they don't screw up their lives and can finish highschool, go to college and have more abortions.

Well, the parts manufacturers will tell you how everything is ok and how you should not worry about anything. However, in reality, if you pop your engine or your turbos it would be a financial nightmare regardless of whether you can afford it or not.
I know the consequences and it used to be easy to get service done with mods. At this point there is just too much to be worried about. I can't even go get a bulb code removed without being flagged for powertrain warrantee void.

Ridiculous is right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All these warranty threads have ruined this site. It is getting annoying.

Go to the 5-series and 1-series forums. They too have the x35i motor. And their forums are not full of this crap.
