Question about 1 year service oil change

My one year service is due next month and I want to know if the dealer will do an oil change for me if I only have 3500 miles on my car?

It's 1 year or when your OBC says so. Whichever comes first.

And for pete's sake, only 3500 miles in 1 year? DRIVE YOUR CAR MORE OFTEN!!

That's good to know... I only have 5K at just over my one year mark and was wondering the same thing... Time for me to make that call.

I just had my one year oil change done, and it rolled 9,000 miles right as I pulled into the service bay. They are NOT supposed to reset the service indicator. My paperwork says:
Quote:
Conduct low mileage annual oil and fiilter change. Perform vehicle safety inspection. Do not change microfilter. Do not reset service indicator.
Just call up and tell them you need an annual oil change due to low mileage.

I had an oil change at 5,000 miles (out of pocket at an independent dealer) because I think a 15,000 oil change interval, even with synthetic, in a turbocharged engine is just begging for problems.

Lastly, I gave my SA the Blackstone collection bottle and they got a sample for me. The gave me no hassles about it either. I've sent off the sample, so it should be interesting to see how it compares with the first sample at 5,000 miles.

No, they won't do an oil change unless the service light is triggered on your dash. My car just turned 1 year, and almost 12K miles, I took it to the dealership for an oil change, and they told me that I'm due for it in another 4K miles, when my service light will come up.

They do free low mileage oil change (I had mine at 5K) after every complete year (not a day earlier), and they are not supposed to reset oil change indicator.

Along the same lines, if I've driven 15,000 miles, but it hasn't been a year and the OBD hasn't asked for the oil change yet, will I get my free oil change?

I believe you will after the 1st complete year.
'07 "Service and Warranty Guide", page 6, text in bold: "Note: Change oil at least once a year".
Shouldn't they follow their own requirements?

that is COMPLETELY false, and your dealership is LYING to you. you need to take your car to another dealership and/or report your dealership to BMW NA. per BMW's 4yr/50k free service, you are allowed an oil change PER year or when you service idicator is triggered...which ever comes first. my indicator never indicated i needed an oil change in year #1, so i brought mine on my delivery date and i got my FREE oil change as stated in OUR warranty.

that makes no sense?

so if my indicator on my 1 year anniversary says 500 miles before oil service, but i decide to get my oil changed per the 1 year rule, you are saying they won't reset my inidicator?? so 500 miles later i can get ANOTHER oil change? can you further explain, because obviously i am missing something.

i was in this EXACT scenario and they indeed reset my indicator, which makes logical sense to me.

Well, if you hit the 1 year mark and are just 500 miles from the next service, I'd hardly call that "low mileage." I'm sure that BMW has a guideline that says if the service indicator is withing X,XXX miles, reset the indicator. Clearly, with 500 miles to go, they'll reset the indicator.

I originally changed my oil on my own dime at 3000 miles.

after 1 year of ownership and 7000 miles on the clock the dealership changed my oil for free and did not reset my service indicator. work order states "completed low mile oil and filter change (N/C)."

they told me to bring the car in when the service indicator tells me to and they would do the 15k mile check up for free, including another oil change.

I called and asked my SA if there was a time window on the 1 yr free-bee (was out of town for a while, and also wanted to have him do pre track inspection at the same time) - he changed it free at 9500 and 13 months.

They didn't reset the service indicator, so I'm due back in after another 5000 miles.

I also did my 1 yr at 9400 miles and they didn't reset. Does that mean when the car hits the required service milage I will need to service again? Would that be covered under warentee? If so then you can actually have more then 4 oil services covered.

I'm having a low-milage annual oil change done today. Car was nowhere near the service milage interval. No charge.
