Best 'Low Dust' Pads

Can anyone recommend some brake pads for my 335xd?

I am looking for some with very low dust (but still maintaining stopping power).

On my previous E92 I was using Akebono pads for low dust - I liked those pads, truly almost no dust, & other than slightly less initial bite compared to OEM, they had great stopping power & feel - very linear

With the new F32 I found that Akebono didn't have application ???

So I went with CoolCarbon - dust level is noticeably higher then the Akebono's & not real happy with feel of brakes. Stopping power is there, but I have to apply the brakes much harder to yield a result...

I would NOT buy the CoolCarbon pads again

I swapped my OEM (M Sport brake) pads for Porterfield R4-S. Feel and stopping power are at least as good as the OEM pads, and the amount of dust is much more reasonable.

you just ruined my day. i hate the stock pads on my 335, noisy as shit and extremely dusty (not sure what bmw means by 'low dust' but these are not'). i had a set of akebono pads on my e90 and was planning on putting them on the f30 when the time came. now i'll have to figure something else out.

TRW Ceramic Brake Pads

I had Akebono pads on my BMW 123d which gave me virtually no dust and great stopping power. Unfortunately they do not make them for my 340i, so I've ordered a set of TRW front and rear pads.

Anyone had any experience with TRW ceramic pads?

Have you got a link to these pads please?

I'd be interested to know as well. Cleaning the rims takes probably the longest when washing the car. I've even put on sealants to make washing them slightly less time consuming.

Though, would BMW replace aftermarket brake pads or do I need to go elsewhere? Price differences?

Take a look at rockauto.com

- Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic
- Centric Posi-Quiet Semi Metallic
- Power Stop Z23

All above are low dust (the 1st one is super low dust) and very cheap.

I've just installed Power Stop Z23 into my M Performance Brake Kit and happy with it.

I bought my TRW ceramic pads through Amazon. AutoZone also have them but their site was crappy and wouldn't accept PayPal, and their prices were more expensive.

Get the TRW pads installed yet, and if so, what's the verdict?

I haven't had them installed yet. I'm waiting until after I get a free service from an official BMW stealer, before having it done by my preferred unofficial service centre. The 340i has only done 13,000 Kms, so there's no hurry.
I'll keep you posted.

Had them installed, and once bedded in were as good as Akebono.

You will sacrifice stopping power to reduce dust levels, that's all people need to understand.

There is a great pad, with "low" dust and better stopping power than OEM pads, those are EBC Reds. I would recommend those to anyone who doesn't ever track their car, but likes a great "initial bite" and overall higher performing pad than factory. If you don't mind a wee bit of cold squealing the EBC Yellows are a very big step up from OEM in performance, but have similar dust levels.

I run the EBC Yellows on the street and don't find the dust or noise to be an issue. It comes with the territory for a high performing pad that can take high temps and severe duty. I clean my car by hand, weekly, though. Wanna see a lot of dust, and noise? Try a full race pad...lol

Just had them done. While it takes up to 500 km to bed new pads in, and even though the car had only done 14,000 kms (8,700 miles), so the rotors (discs) are like new, the initial tests are very good and the Dynamic Cruise Control with automatic braking is happy. I'll keep you posted as the pads bed in.

Oh, and it isn't a track car ... so talk about losing brake efficiency is just that ... talk.

It is now some 500 kms later, and the brakes are A1. Good initial bite, and no fade from the little heavy braking I've done.

Hawk Ceramics on my E90 335. Very quiet, low dust with very linear bite. Will be doing brake job on my 13 335 this spring and will be using these again.

Have you both used the EBC Reds on the F30? Asking because I haven't read any reviews on the pads except on other cars which says that they do dust and lack initial "bite."

Just need real world reviews so I can finally be dust and squeal free

I have EBC Reds on my F31. I'm happy with them for street pads. Coming from the M-Sport pads the dust is a helluva lot less! The bite is better than the M-Sport pads IMO (those pads really didn't have bite, but would stop you well once you were past the half way pedal mark). I toss on Pagids when going to the track.

See more of my impressions of them in my log (towards the end of the post).

No, on the F31 I'm still using the factory M Performance Brake pads.
I used the RedStuff on my 330i E46 front/rear for about 5 years.
Very low dust and good to clean.
Good initial bite, but not to heavy.
They improve when they warm up, no fading with normal/heavy street use.

Any thoughts on Hawk HPS or High Performance Street 5.0 pads? I used the HPS on my 2007 Audi A4 and thought they worked great with minimal dust.
