If you had to choose, which of these trucks/SUVs would you pick for a DD?
Having a tough time figuring out what to get next as my daily. Drive about 30K miles a year and narrowed down my choice to the following:
2018 Ford F-150 Limited - this package comes with basically everything I want. 2015+ Yukon Denali - I have found CPO/used ones with the only option I care for which is HUD/active cruise control. 2015+ Escalade - pretty much the same price/mile and options as the Yukon 2015+ GLE450/63 - only concern I have is the service cost is going to be expensive. Non-AMG model service A is $200 and Service B is $300. Double for the AMG. I've driven all of them but I keep going back and forth between the Escalade and F-150. The Escalade IMO will be more reliable because of the NA motor vs the twin turbo V6 ecoboost. |

A 2015 F150 Platinum Eco Boost has been my primary daily driver for 2-1/2 years now. Use it to tow boats, jet skis and a dual axle utility trailer. Various Eco boost engines have been in use for a number of years now, in a variety of Ford vehicles, have been raced, etc. Prior to the F150 I had 5 different V8 Expeditions, ranging from 1997 to 2010 models. The EB runs smoother, tows better and gets better mileage than any of the Expeditions. I doubt you'd experience any reliability issues with it. All I've had to do maintenance wise is change the oil. Between the F150 and Escalade it probably comes down to appearance and feature differences, and or brand loyalty. Also, what fits your needs better, a truck, or an SUV. I suspect the real world mileage for either of them would be similar, if that's even a concern with a truck.

I rented a Yukon Denali a few months ago and loved it. Was a 2017. The gauge clusters and infotainment were amazing, the seating was amazing, everything was amazing. Almost bought one but ended up with a slightly used Armada because it fit our towing needs better.

With driving those many miles, I'd stick with the F-150. Sure the Benz is nice ride but I wouldn't even consider it if I knew I'd roll 30k every year. Same on the Caddy.

If you’re issue is with the eco boost just buy the v8. I’d take the f150 over the rest just because of its ability to tow and bed can be useful.

Good to know the ecoboost is pretty reliable, I'll never use it to tow but probably haul things around if the need ever arises. Quote:

No offense but thats too expensive for what you get and maintenance is expensive. Plus, there is a reason my list doesn't have any BMW's. |

Not a fan of any of those choices.
The domestics probably make the most sense to put a bunch of miles on. But full-size trucks are behemoths I'd hate to drive every day, the GM SUV's feel cheap and flimsy to me, and the MB is an overpriced monstrosity that will be hideously expensive to maintain while taking a beating in value and having worse reliability. |

Coming from someone who's owned large SUV's, and an F150, if you don't need a pickup to haul stuff in the bed, you're better off with a large SUV, whichever make / trim level you like the best. If you don't need a truck, they really are more practical. Most SUV's have 3 rows of seats for those occasions when you may want or need to seat 6 or 7 people; with the rear seats folded down they can carry almost as much as in the 5-1/2 ft bed of a crew cab truck; they are usually shorter and fit better in a standard size garage; they usually sit lower and ride and handle better, especially one with IRS, like an Expedition; most all can be optioned with 4WD or AWD; for light duty hauling - going shopping, a run to a warehouse club, grocery shopping, bags of gardening stuff from the hardware store, etc., you can throw the stuff in the back and it's out of the elements and out of sight, with a truck you'd need a bed cover of some sort to protect it. As for reliability, I had 5 Expeditions, a 1997, a 2000, a 2003, a 2008 and a 2010. Only major problem I ever had was the engine on the 97 had to be replaced due to a piston defect, so I got a new motor for free! Never had a tranny, brake, electrical problem with any of them, never broke down, never had to get towed. I suspect the Yukon, Denali and Escalade are just as reliable if you take care of them.

I've driven the Escalade and the Yukon and they drive pretty atrociously. Cannot imagine having to do 30K miles a year in either of them.

I had a Yukon Denali as a rental as well for a couple of weeks. The main thing I liked was how me, as the driver, felt like the vehicle was wrapped around me. As in everything was close, easy to reach, easy to access and just fit.
The only real thing I didn't like was how the arm rests were. They angled down where your hand would be and where the buttons were for the windows/etc. And how the air vent blew right onto my right hand when I was holding the wheel at the 10 and 2 or 9 and 3 or 11 and 1 position. Pretty much had to angle the vent straight up or as far right as it could go. With it having the 5.3l V8, I was very surprised in the fuel economy. Low 20s. Drove it 5 hours one way, twice, and loved it. Never got uncomfortable and was a great driving vehicle. You could also look at the Tahoe since it's the same damn thing. Just branded as a Chevy, cheaper and a little less "refined". |

I would not buy any of those. I'm perfectly happy (although alert for trouble) with my rwd 335d; if I need extra I drive my wife's 328xd. (Both with Blizzak snows). I prefer a comfortable drive up the mountains (I can pretty much guarantee that I drive in more severe snow conditions than almost anyone else) and that's all I need. A taller vehicle (especially without snow tires) only gets you stuck further into an impassable road, and then you're really in trouble because no-one can come get you.

If those were my only choices, I would go with the new F150. You are going to be putting a lot of miles on, why start with a bunch already? They all have nice interiors, but the F-150 has the added bonus of a bed for when you need it.

After driving a Nissan Armada for about 10 years I switched to an F150. The ecoboost is awesome, and I love the tech in the truck. What I have found is that the truck is better for the driver, but the suv is better for the passengers. The suv's cargo space (with 3rd row folded down) is far more useful. With a bed cover the truck's cargo space is hard to access.
In conclusion I love the truck when I'm behind the wheel. The SUV is better when not in the driver's seat

The GLE, formerly the ML, is a relic from the good 'ole Chrysler days. It's mediocre driving dynamics, subpar interior materials, and dorky egg shaped styling still remain despite the refresh. It's easily the worst midsize luxury SUV on the market. |

Not to concerned where the parts in the vehicle I like come from. More concerned if I like the parts or not. Its a badass gauge cluster, it could come from a pinto for all I care.
