So I bought a new ride, not a BMW (Jeep)
Well my car has been in the shop for a few days and I took this opportunity to buy a new beater. It's a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4x4. I really just jumped in and should have researched more but I let my impulses get the best of me.
So now my real reason for posting... Any prior Jeep owners have any useful info they can share? What should I be looking out for? What kind of maintenance does this thing need? Any parts I should swap out ASAP? Thanks! |

That's a nice XJ!
I had a 95 2-door. It was green and ugly but it was reliable, everyone loved it (people love Jeeps I guess), and very cheap to fix (rarely) I like 'em a lot - I want another Jeep now but probably a Wrangler this time. PS - get a pair of E-Code H4 headlights, you'll be much happier with them than the stock sealed beams. resist the temptation to put big fat tires - they kill the mileage considerably. It is inefficient to start off.. Mine had the 5-speed manual gearbox and it was quite a quick little truck. |
