Marble tiles in the bathroom floor, shower any regrets?
Im planning to remodel bathroom and I like marble and its look. Planning to use marble on the floor but hesitant to use in the bathtub/shower. Any one have marble in the bathroom? Any regrets? Maintenance? Maybe some marble looking porcelain is better?

3years ago we decided to go full marble in our master bathroom. Full sheets on the wall and pattern on the floor. It's holding up very well and easy to clean, no regrets at all.

It looks great - really hard to beat marble from that perspective. However, I'd imagine it will need to be polished and sealed annually and you should also think about wet feet traction if putting on the floor (as you would with any material).
We are doing our master bathroom early next year but planning to use tile for shower and floors and quartz for counter surfaces. Just a matter of personal preference, amount of surface to cover and budget.

Having remodeled several homes, my advice to you would be to visit one of the larger tile stores such as Arizona Tile: https://www.arizonatile.com
Visit when you have a few hours to work with one of their consultants. I have found them to have a pretty unique selection, and the folks I have worked with there are thoughtful and considerate when assembling a solution for me. You just might be blown away by how great you can make a bathroom look when you step back for a moment and consider several options. Bathrooms and kitchens sell homes, as important as the latter, is that women love their bathrooms. If you are married, it's probably a great idea to have your wife accompany you to Arizona Tile. It's just a fact of life that women have a different lens through which they view this (and other) types of choices. They tend to spend a lot more time in the bathroom, so they seek ambience, amongst other factors when making choices of this nature. It's really a force multiplier having your SO along with you when seeking ideas. It's an important decision as you're going to be looking at that bathroom for a long time. You may pay a little more going this route, but you will certainly get the wow factor going, and it's actually a lot of fun when you take the time to consider several choices. You might, in your case, actually pay somewhat less, as incorporation of tile into your project while you are still using marble, may reduce costs. I also find a lot of inspiration looking at Houzz.com - their photographs are incredible, you can set up albums on their website and save the images of bathrooms you like. Good luck! |

There are a million materials but marble will never be used by me.

Our apartment has a lot of marble and it needs a lot of TLC. You put a drink down and have to careful the sweat from the glass doesn't leave a ring on the marble.

After 3 + years, ours shows no sign of wear, water marks or stains and I wish it would (curse you good water with no rust!). The marble in old baths that you see in Italy is what I really want, some rust stains and wear and stuff. I prefer things that are broken in but look well taken care of and clean (I think leather looks better with some wrinkles and wear in it, hate it when it's new, should have just gotten vinyl). I love some "history" showing in natural materials

You can buy granite products that resemble marble, Countertops are granite in my parent's house, but you'd swear it was carrera marble...

What may not have been obvious in my post or pictures though is that in 3+ years with virtually zero maintenance other than the cleaning woman every week (I think she uses Fabuloso and a scrub brush - that's what it smells like after she leaves), the sheets of marble on the shower walls and the marble floors are holding up and looking as good as the day they went in, and I wish they wouldn't.

We are remodeling two bathrooms right now (master and kids). We are using marble for the master shower because it's stand up and the white gives it a more spacious feel. The tile was literally delivered today so I can opine better in a few weeks. We wanted light but hated fake pattern tiles and I think the subway tile look is fading in popularity. Marble is classic.

Not happy with the performance of our Dark Emperador marble counter top in the master bath. Needs to be polished. We have french cut, chiseled edge marble throughout the main part of the house. Love it. Has held up really well and never looks dirty. Score!
