132 People Charged with Street Racing Law
...this past weekend in Ontario. The most brazen is a 17 yr old doing 239 km/h in an 80 zone.

This was more in reference to that 5000 people still don't get it? 132 people alone this weekend still think that it's okay to drive 50 over the speed limit? Is the water still contaminated over there or something? I would think that after the first few hundred people were charged, most people would have smartened up and said 'hey they are serious about this new law'. We all speed (those who are shaking there head right now better STFU because you're lying). But 50 over the limit? Come on...

btw, 50 over the limit is not universally unacceptable it depends on the situation On some 80 roads in Ontario, like the roads I commute on, doing 130 is not irresponsible at all. (depending on road conditions and traffic) (you need to see these roads before passing judgment. traffic moves at 100, but only because of fear of cops) and then there are some 80 roads where doing even 20 over would be unsafe. it all really depends on the road, the conditions and the traffic. anyways, I think it's pretty unanimous that the guy doing 239 on an 80 road was completely out of line. If he wanted to speed so badly he could have at the very least done it on the 404 North of Markham around 2am. at least then, he isn't putting anyone else at risk. driving at such a speed on an 80 road is 100% unacceptable, and shows a lack of common sense / awareness of danger. |

So stupid.
Is there a new law about speeding? My dad mentioned this morning that anyone under 25 years caught speeding can get their license suspended. Is this true? |

Edited for accuracy... and yes, it's true... when speeding over 50km/h from the posted max speed limit.

Some-thing to think about:
Pretty much all the cars these days come with electronically limited top speed. Each manufacter uses his own standards. How come non sport models have 210km/h and sport bumps it up to 255? Are there any roads in Ontario or Canada where you can go that fast? If the government actually wanted to stop people from speeding, would not it be an easy solution by putting electronic limit to some-thing like 120km/h as part of making a car "canadian" (day lights, etc)? Doing that would pretty much eliminate the need of highway speed rides, and according to statistics eliminate big chunk of deadly accidents. My action is retoric, the reason it's not happenning and not going is the money that comes from the auto industry, fines, gas, mods, etc, etc, etc. In the end of the day all that matter is money! If this kid has a loaded daddy he will get his car and his license in no time, and will be speeding again as if nothing happenned... It all starts and stops with money... |

I don't agree that driving fast on a public road at 2am is any less risky than driving a 10pm. It's probablly more dangerous as you would feel safer to take even more risk - drive faster; take a turn later; drift; etc

There is a really good reason as to why BMW does not cap speeds at 120km/h.
Try to imagine this scenario. You are driving around with your wife in your new E90 (leather seats...the works). Nature will bless your wife with a child...in 20 minutes. You are 50km (25 minutes) away from the nearest hospital. |

lol
I can think of at least 100 scenarios where I need more than 120km/h limit. For starters - my daily commute on 407. When I go 120 people cut me off every couple minutes looking very angry about my slow driving Quote:

What the real joke is.. is the 100KM/H limit on all 400 series highways. Even in the far right lane, at 100, you are being passed by everyone. Including grannies in their boats.
I agree 150 is excessive speeding. But how is the penalty the same for going 155 on an open stretch of 400 with no one else on the road but you, as going 155 on on the 401 through traffic, in the middle of the city. The latter should be taken more seriously, and is far more reckless. Instead, they give an officer the power (like they didn't have enough before) of playing the judge, juror, and executioner on the side of the road. So if the guy doesn't like the cut of your jib, you're screwed no matter what. I have passed radar on the 400 going at least 135, probably 140.. I didn't see him till it was too late. To my surprise, I wasn't pulled over! He was looking for someone doing 150+. Not cool IMO Does going 155 on an open stretch really warrant/justify them taking your license, and impounding your car on the spot? Don't forget about the max $10,000 fine that comes with that. The area is gray IMO. Quote:
