Epic fail, god damn it.
2008 E93. So im cruising into a parking lot, and all the sudden idrive alert comes on, saying i have no oil (i had like 3/4 on dashboard display bar when i checked the day before). I idled into a spot and turned off (car was on for like 30-40 secs @ like idle revs after warning). I have no liquid leaking in the engine bay or from the bottom of the car, and its an 08" with around 6k miles. Im guessing a pump or sensor, cause it was so sudden, the car didnt warn me of low oil previously either. I wish that the E93 came with a dipstick so i could have actually checked, but its all comp controlled now. (the car is bone stock, so warrantee ftw) Its at BMW of SD now (anybody on here work there?), hope its ready for the Cars+Coffee caravan, otherwise imma have to borrow something from someone in the family :-( |

thats odd. most likely a bad sensor. The only times i have gotten a low oil level alert is when Im parked on my driveway or a somewhat steep hill/slope. Dont fret friend Im sure your car is just fine.

This happened to me on the long ass bridge on the way back from Key west.. Try finding synthetic oil in the middle of the florida keys. In the end it was a faulty oil sensor.. car went from full oil to warning message. I know the message sounds extremely serious but you have to use better judgment.

This is why technology for the sake of technology sucks. I mean really what would it have hurt to have a damn dipstick?

I was udated by BMW of SD at about 4PM, and they said that "bad code in the car computer" had triggered it. It needs a full reprograming and will take another day to do. |

I always have an extra can of oil in my trunk for my BMWs
BMW honestly eats oil compared to other cars I have had. Right now I have a Toyota and I never check the oil. By the time it calls for a change at 5,000 miles its as full as it was at mile 0. Now the BMW will eat maybe half a quart or more by then, so I always keep a can in the trunk just in case. My E46 was worse than the E36 in this regard, but the E92 has been fantastic so far. I have about 6000 miles since the last change I did, and the level has not changed according to the computer. I will be changing it again soon in a couple of days.
