BMW vehicle check
Hi all, thought I'd get your opinions on this.
My iDrive has prompted me for the vehicle check. I just called up Northshore BMW (Chatswood) and was quoted $310 for the check. Seems a bit excessive for what is essentially a visual inspection. I seem to recall paying about $150 for my 325i a number of years ago. Has the cost gone up? Does the 335i cost more? Keen to hear your thoughts. |

Get a MHD or Carly or whatever its called now, small investment and you'll be able to check/read faults.

Do not pay. Bmw dealers no longer check it and usually just reset it once inspection 1 or 2 is being completed. Whoever wanted to charge you, speak to their manager and watch them reset it and no charge.

While an annual/15k km vehicle check may sound trivial, this 'service' is important to identify any problems before they become bigger ones. Wouldn't you like to know about your leaky oil filter housing gaskets when they are showing early signs of failure rather than drive til something breaks, thinking your religious oil change regimen is all you need for a happy car. Then have your car towed because the oil contaminated belt shredded and ended up in your timing case? Or to be advised on what you should save up for in terms of repairs?
I do agree that the price charged by most dealers is steep for something that only takes about half an hour (larger cars will require a bit longer). My recommendation is for those who regularly check their cars from bumper to bumper, just reset it. For those who cant be bothered to check their tyre pressures at least monthly should bring their car in to their preferred service centre whether it be a dealer or indy. For those concerned about the workmanship of any business you pay, you should take it up with the management. Businesses can't improve if they don't receive feedback. |

South Coast BMW in Wollongong.
I was also quoted $600 for Oil Filter Housing Gasket plus install, Valve Cover Gasket plus install and water pump install (I provide water pump and thermostat hardware) Booked in for next Wednesday for all that. Pretty happy with them to be honest |

In case someone stumbles across this thread in the future: went to the appointment at Canterbury this morning and they asked for $250. After a bit of back and forth, they relented and honoured the original quote.

Then tried to claim it's not covered by warranty due to some irrelevant clause in Premium Selection T&C. Got it all covered, including a tow at 0 charge to me except a bus detour to go pick it up at the Brookvale dealership - how it should've been essentially. Don't waste your time with them. Better off anywhere else really.
