1Addicts experience the most scenic roads in Europe: Lake Garda-Strada della Forra...
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Main driving day was a dry autumn Saturday (nice 20°C) . In the morning the group split up into the early-birds and the more comfortable ones. I can tell about the comfortable but scenic*** part... (Perhaps Artemis can tell about the brillant passes the early birds entered this autumn saturday morning...) After visiting Limone sul Garda (see Dackelone's photos) we entered the first highlight of the day: 1st stop: Strada della Forra Strada della Forra (The Gorge Road) is known as one the most dangerous and scenic roads in the world - a nail biting adventure even for the well practiced driver. The legendary road which is yearly part of the Mille Miglia is located in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, on the western shore of Lake Garda, in Italy. It leads from Pieve di Tremosine through the sharp and curvy Brasa canyon towards the Gardesana. Google Earth Flight Overview Named as the most beautiful road in the world by the Frankfurter Zeitung 1913 and called as the 8. world wonder by Winston Churchill once, today nearly every prominent car manufacturer already staged its models on this dream road. Furthermore it is seen in numerous film sequences for example in the opening scene of the James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace" in one of the most intense and spectacular action car chases ever. Seven Aston Martin DB9s were totaled during the filming... Total distance: 6 km Drive time: 18 min including 12 min of dead lock due to oncoming traffic on the extremely narrow parts The driving videos can give you just little imagination about the beauty and thrill of these few miles. James Bond dream road Strada della Forra Limone sul Garda - Strada della Forra - Gargnano ___ Thanks for watching!

2nd highlight of the day: Three-lake-tour Valvestino Lake - Lake Idro - Lake Ledro
After lunch break in Gargnano (see Dackelone's photos) the group reunited with the early birds and experienced the second brillant part of the day: the so-called three-lake-tour Gargnano - Valvestino Lake (1) - Lake Idro (2) - Lake Ledro and back to Lake Garda (Limone sul Garda) The tour is known as one of the most beautiful trips for bikers in Nortern Italy. So it should be curvy and fun... And man it was a hot ride over dangerous roads with hard accelerations, extremely tight hairpins and the roar of the straight-six on mainly lonesome roads... Part 1: Gargnano (Lake Garda) - Valvestino Reservoir Total distance: 15 km Drive time: 18 min Part 2: Valvestino Reservoir - Lake Idro Total distance: 18 km Drive time: 25 min At the Q8 fuel station near Lake Idro the group separated after 2 days of thrilling driving experience. It wasn't Sella or Stelvio but the thrill and fun you experience on these roads can keep up easily with the well-known but overcrowded icons. I hope a Lake Garde 2.0 will follow! Thanks to Trond, Luc and Dave for planning. Brillant job as always!

Thanks Mark for creating this thread. I kept meaning too but I have been so busy. Man how the summer has flown by.
This was a great little trip for "us" Euro 1Addicts. It was kind of on short notice... but sometimes those are the best kind of trips. Just hop in the car and go! Here are "some" of my pics. The Gardasee(Garda Lake) area is so great to visit. Mark is almost a local - he has been there so many times! I would have never found this "hidden" road that is carved thru the canons of the shore of the Gardasee. It was quite a road... until that mega traffic jam when two "non drivers" didn't know what to do when the road got too narrow. Well... 30 minutes latter we were back driving down that road. After the trip Mark told me that Winston Church Hill described the Lake Garda-Strada della Forra... as one of Europe's most beautiful roads. It was. Enjoy my pics... I put some comments above each pic soon. Dackel Brenner Pass - Toll road... just like the NJ Turnpike! lol Always a nice place to stop for Lunch when we need a place to meet up! Zum Engel in Sterzing Via Deutschhaus, 20, 39049 Vipiteno BZ, Italy Next door there is this Q8 gas station which has 100 octane fuel. Its very rare to find anything other than "super" 95 octane in Italy. So when we find or know of a gas station that sells 100... we make sure to pay them a visit. Besides the ladies that run this gas station are really nice to us!! Where to go!? Hotel Mercure Nerocubo Rovereto Via Per Marco, 16, 38068 Rovereto TN, Italy a nice hotel... but nothing special. The rooms were nice though. I just didn't care for the breakfast. A nice steak-haus place in Trento. Roadhouse Grill Roadhouse Restaurant Trento - Via del Brennero, 145, 38122 Trento TN, Italy I forgot to snap a pic of my steak... I was starved(!) but I managed to take one of my desert cake! Rikx1M in action... Limone sul Garda 25010 Province of Brescia. Rumor has it Limone(literary Lemon, bc this is the lemon region of Italy)... anyways this town is where the Italian Gigolo was born. Rich German women would vacation here alone in the 50's while the husbands stayed working back home. There were lots of lemon workers who would "entertain" these women in the summer months. lol This was kind of weird... I guess it was someone's grave under the water. ??? e-car "Zoe" by Renault... I think you could out run it. "unlimited" Boost!

Gargnano - our lunch destination...
I always try to pick up a post card or two for my collection of travels. Some yummy Gelato... Mmmm... Our restaurant with a lakeside view... and some food shots.... WTH... Back on another small twisty reservoir road... they need more rain! Look to the right in this pic.. three guys were dragging a small boat UP this mountain! Yeesh! One of the many tunnels we drove this day... and you never know when you will run across some construction zones! lol One last stop for fuel... at this point we all went our separate ways. Rikx1M and I decided to drive to Stelvio Pass. The next day we got a small shock by mother nature. 100 octane fuel FTW!! Thats $24 for just under 3 gallons of fuel!! Gotta pay to play!! Castel Toblino - Localita' Castel Toblino, 1, 38072 Calavino TN, Italy www.casteltoblino.com A great little castle to visit. We crashed a wedding party on this day! lol Hotel Perego at the top of Stelvio Pass. Hotel Perego Strada del Passo dello Stelvio, 23032 Bormio SO, Italy The Ferrari test drivers often stop into Hotel Perego for an expresso from Francesca or Victor. They are always great to visit and its like seeing old friends when we stay in Stelvio/Bormio. Leaving Hotel Perego at the summit of Stelvio and driving Northbound back to Austria and Germany... Fernstein Castle: Fernstein 476, 6465 Nassereith, Austria located directly on the Fernpass Strasse, road #179, heading into Reutte(A)/or Garmisch. and now for something "different"... Illital Autobahn rest platz on the A7 going North bound just before the A8 intersection(near Legoland DE).

The night before meeting the main group down in Italy... I met up with Rikx1M and a buddy of his in Austria. We met at a hotel in Krimml, Austria. Krimmel has the highest waterfall in Europe and it was literally just a few meters in front of our hotel. Speaking of the hotel... it was quite cheap at 75 euros per night including dinner & breakfast & parking. Rick scored an even better deal by staying at their overflow hotel next door for 45 euros per night also including dinner in the main hotel!
The roads in this area were awesome.... in fact in the 1930's many a hill climb race was held on these very same roads. Kimmel is also near Kitzbuhel(the very well known skiing area). Rick was out touring Austria... so we picked this hotel as a good place to meet up at. The very next day we would drive South to Sterzing, Italy to meet the rest of the gang at the Zum Engel Hotel in Vipiteno. It's always great to meet old friends like Rick each year on our many road tour adventures. I have to credit Rick for having the idea for our very first tour to Stelvio back some seven years ago! under the Krimml waterfall lies our Hotel for the evening... 9 euros to driven in the Krimml toll road. But what a road it is! You can show your toll card for a small discount if you drive back on this road out of Krimml like we did. Not bad for a 500 year old hotel! My hotel room view at night... Pink building next to this small gas station is the cheaper hotel... ever race a train? Zillertal Express...

Couple of photos...
Thanks Dackelone for the kudos...it was just natural that 1Addicts from around Europe collect for annual pilgrimages through the amazing switchbacks and roads in our backyards.
What’s really cool is that we have Americans, Germans, Belgians, Norwegians, Italians, Austrians, Romanians and Swiss BMW enthusiasts that drive hundreds of miles to meet up and then tour together. These 1Addicts have truly given me a lifetime of memories that can never be stolen, written over or deleted…unlike our digital photos. So, without guys like you and the rest of the 1series crowd, our European adventures wouldn’t be so much fun, year after year, drive after drive. Thank you! Krimml, Austria... High above Gardasee... On the ferry to Gargnano for lunch... Our group...

Great to see, watching the videos on my iPad later! I went to Limone in 94 and stayed in Riva, too the Brenner Pass to Seefeld Austria after. Fantastic area. I took a hydrofoil from Riva to Limone but remember the roads!
