Dyno with factory air filter removed=drop in hp

to see how restrictive the air filter is I decided to do a run without the air filter. There actually a reduction in hp and increase in tq. I ordered the helene filter. i guess it can't flow better than no filter!

It might have to do with adaptation to the increased airflow. That is why in some areas you gained, but in peak hp you lost.....

i think you're right about the adaptation....well I'll let the car adapt with the helene filter before dynoing.

Part of it might be due to heat soak.

The filter is not the restrictive part. It's the design of the airbox. Pull the lid and you'll see significant horsepower.

FYI,
Helene not only looked at increase of flow, but they also tested out "turbulence" as well.

I'm curious if the excess turbulence without the filter caused the decrease in power.
I'm just wondering.

The reaosn why I bring this up is because Blaine was telling me that they had the pleat count down to 17 and still keeping the filtration to OEM standards.
But, they chose a higher pleat count because the lower amount of pleats caused excess turbulence, which dampered the flow.
This is the reason why they picked 22 pleats.

Or maybe the DME just needed a few more runs to completelly adapt to the change in airflow.

After a day or so with my Helene, my but-o-meter can tell a difference.
