New Trim

Installed my Piano black trim today .

Very easy to do (about 30mins) and I'm very happy with the new look.

BMW Sydney, about $2270 inc GST. They quoted me about 6 mths ago and I took my time saving the pennies before ordering. It took about 3 weeks to arrive from Germany.

I know, insane amount of $$, but I chose genuine because;

a) could not find a replica trim kit in Piano black
b) most replicas are for the US so may have had issues with fitment
c) fell in love with it

Now all I need to get is the new LED steering wheel, but I want it trimmed in Lemon, not alacntra (cannot spell it). Will have to wait until it's released to see what insane amount they want for that....

No idea what you had before, but whatever it is, this new trim is an improvement! It looks great!

Looks unreal! Can't believe they charged you full amount though! When I had the 335 they had a car coming in that was exactly what I wanted, except with 18s instead of 19s and without the correct trim, they just swapped the trim out of another car on the lot at no charge and just charged the difference between 18-19 inch wheels.

The steering wheel would be a nice touch, I personally reckon its the right move not to put alcantra in as you don't have it anywhere else. Hartge make an unreal wheel for the E90/2 cars though

Brushed Alum. Didn't want to fork out for an individual model to get the Piano.

See above why I didn't swap when I bought it, I also thought I would prefer the Alum.

Alcantra isn't my thing. I like the Hartage wheel but not into CF, now if they did it with Piano then that would be sweet . The wheel I like can be seen here but I would swap the alcantra for Lemon leather to match the rest of the car.

Great job mate! I was opting to get piano black for my car but fell in love with the burl and saddle look more. Im a bit stoked about the price BMW Sydney charged but nevertheless it is worth it if you love it.

I've got the Piano Black coming in my new 335ci next week. It wasn't an individual option though. Just a no cost option and a 4 month wait!

Not quite, you got High Gloss Black as a no cost option. Piano Black is the same colour but completely different and much nicer hence the healthy price tag. Definently the best looking trim in my opinion depending on the combo

That is really ... Really nice. Great combination with the Lemon interior.

While were on the page talking about trim replacement, I'll ask a question. How do you take the ash tray cover off (the actual peice that swings open and closed). I have my nav installed in the ash tray and I'm thinking of buying another lid and cutting it so the area is closed around the nav.

The ashtray and lid are 1 mechanism. You can remove it from under the trim by;

1) Pull up the leather boot that covers the shifter. This allows the black plastic bit to come away from the trim. It has wires on the back so don't pull too hard!!!!

2) Start the car and put it into drive.

3) Put your hands under the trim and lift it up. Helps to have the arm rest section up at this time.

4) Once the trim is free you can lift it and rotate it around so that the shift mechanism/plate goes through the hole ... *** if you have the ciggy lighter you will need to disconnect it ***

5) Put car into park & turn off engine.

6) Ashtray comes off via 4 torx screws from under the trim

Installation is the reverse of the above.

You can buy a sunglasses tray that replaces the existing unit. All you need to do is swap it out & put the cover trim onto the new unit.

I did this when I was playing with the idea of a boost gauge in that area, allowed me to cut etc as a trial without actually playing with my trim.

That's a great Idea..... Too late to go to the dealer now so I'll get one during the week and play with it next weekend. Can you advise a rough price of this sunglass holder

Honestly no, it was around $150 ish I think. Took them a week to get it in.

How are you finding the piano black.

When I opted for it, I was warned about scratching.

I have noticed micro scratching, but I still think it is by far the nicest trim.

I could have got the high gloss for free, but paid euro 1,000 for the piano. I figured if BMW was going to charge me euro 1,000 it must be nicer (the trim and wheels make the car).

Finally, I know others like their wood/aluminum. But if BMW didn't have the Piano option, I likely would have gone the audi route.
