Handicap Parking Placards
So I just watched a story about how there are more handicap placards for older people than are alive. The story went on to say that among those that are alive many of them don't drive. This last part is bogus as use of the placard is valid when you have a handicap passenger.

Just because a person doesn't drive doesn't mean their handicap placard is being used illegally as the story implied.

Well..I know one guy who knows someone at DMV and was able to get one and another who had some knee issues and was able to get the doc to sign off. I tried to get the guy who knows the DMV homie to hook me up but he says it is pretty hard. Damn. I just want the thing for meter rates because I would never park my car in a handicapped area where other handicapped people can park next to me...we know how that goes.

Its not so much the people that dont have a placard its the people that get them for no reason. I have one and need the extra space in the hash area to open my door wide enough to get my chair out and transfer in. I go to any given parking lot with 10-20 blue spots and 99% of the time they are full. I have spent alot of time waiting for a spot in the last 18 years and its not "old people" using them. They are easy to get if you give no shits about others and a doctor who gives even less shits.

Please remember that not all injuries or disabilities are visible. I have used a placard for a passenger who looks able-bodied but is in lots of pain.

One of the larger VA hospitals has a nice way to deal w/ the problem, or at least they used to - probably should not say which one, but I suspect it is not a unique thing. They have quite a few long-term residents in chairs who often get bored and need something to do, so they take it upon themselves to patrol the handicapped spots and do a little vigilante body work when 'indicated'. Rumor has it that they continued to elude the local federales, almost as if the VA cops supported their actions (and the rumors of police participation are probably almost entirely made up). Only got to see one bit of their handiwork, but it was about as satisfying as seeing that car in front of the fire hydrant with all the hoses running through the broken out windows - just the rumor of it seemed to be a very effective deterrent to the usual offenders (visiting docs and drug reps were more well-behaved than at other local sites).

My wife and I wanted the sunroof and ordered it that way. We are glad that we did. You don't have to be seen in it, so why should you care Last edited by SakhirM4; 12-30-2017 at 11:01 PM.. |
