2020 M3 G80? Anyone else excited?
So over a decade ago this site was completely a buzz for the E90. Many of us old timers were logging in daily to find out the latest testing news/spy shots for the V8 M3 that was just around the corner. Question - am I missing the correct forum where this same excitement is happening for the G80? Without a M3 in the stable for a couple years the next generation M3 is definitely on my watch list! BTW I think the next gen will be called the G80!? Happy New Year!

Its still a ways away. With the high probability it wont come with a manual transmission ill probably skip the generation altogether and hold onto my 6MT F80.

Buzz will gain as it gets closer. However, it may be less than previous generations as it sounds like the G80 may be an evolution of the F80 compared to the revolution of the past several generations.

No because of the crap pictures that showed up here, there's nothing to get excited about.
Once they stop production, people will start talking |

Yes, the buzz will grow as the launch is closer, to be followed in a flash by considerable outrage about whatever has been changed on the new model. All before the damn thing can even be driven...
Full disclosure: if there is no MT option, I'll be one of the vocal critics before I can even drive the car, ha ha. Or, more likely, I'll just fade quietly away and focus on older BMWs and the few remaining new cars that can be had with a MT.

I'm a bit excited and hope all the "M"40i models will allow the M3 to be really hardcore (eg competitive with a "grand sport" corvette with its optional aero and r tires package)

From what I can gather on the posted EOP and SOP dates, etc, it will be a 2022 model year car and likely available early summer 2021 -- typical 7 year cycle. The M4 EOP isn't until 10/2020 even though the F80 EOP is 10/2018, so there will be the two year coupe/vert cycle after the sedan EOP just like there was with the E9x.
It also seems like we'll see the ~475hp S58 first in the X3M and X4M for 2020 according to info thread. In any event, it appears the 7-year cycle is simply repeating as normal, more or less, so we'll see the G20 here in the US in early 2019 with the M3/M4 following 2 years later.

The days of MT are numbered to be sure, and eventually the combustion engine as well. For some reason, I find the lack of a MT less of an issue in electric cars; while the purpose of transportation remains the same, the type of enjoyment (or lack thereof, depending on the car) is much different.

Enjoyed the E46 M3, skipped the slab sided E92, now a happy F82 owner which I consider, hands down, the best looking M car made to date. However, after this bad boy, no more commuter car chassis for me. You never sit quite into the car like a proper sports car. The M3 looks and feels like a cross-over and the M4 doesn't fare much better.
Over the holidays, I had a chance to test drive the new NSX, R8 V10+ and a 991.2 GT3... you def know where your double-the-F82 money are going. So many awesome cars to choose from these days. Mo' money, mo' choices. Exciting times.

You may be correct. If the next M3 isn't coming until 2022 then skipping a M3 generation may not be possible Still, it somehow feels late in the F cycle to be buying new. I'll work on re-calibrating myself

Yeah, I would count on ~April/May 2021 for availability of the US G80 M3 unless something changes, so figure almost 3.5 years from now.
