That doesn't mean that most Texas police won't set up a road block for a bike, or issue an APB for a bike, or institute a radio relay bulletin for neighboring agencies for a bike. No wheeled vehicle can outrun anything measured in thousands or millions of Hertz, after all ...

Good to know I wouldn't quite have made the top 20 if I'd been caught going WOT in my 135i as I'm prone to doing on the weekends sometimes.

I used to work three weeks in Germany and a week back here, flying home on Sundays. One Monday morning, I was driving to work in my old M Coupe. I thought, that's weird, what's a motorcycle cop doing on the side of the road? Oh, wait, I'm back in TX!
Looked down, was doing a tick over 130 mph on 114. Thought I was going to have to figure out how to get bailed out of jail. Put on the hazards, pulled over directly behind the officer before he'd pulled out, unsurprisingly, he had fired up his lights. A quick conversation and explanation of my stupidity and he asked to see my passport and let me go with a warning. Luckiest speeding story I have. Since then I seem to get a ticket any time I even consider speeding. But that one time... Sadly, looks like I still wouldn't have cracked the top 20. |

Absolutely. I work in Las Colinas and drive about twenty miles in Dallas and see about three cops a week. The two miles I spend in Irving I see two or three traffic cops each way, each day. Don't know why they haven't been flagged for over reaching.

I got nabbed in 2004 when I first got my 2004 Cobra. Local sheriff got me for 153 in a 25. Not my proudest moment, but I got arrested, received a $3,560 fine; however, they let me keep my license because I was about to deploy to Iraq in a week for the second time.

Probably the same reasons Grand Prairie hasn't ever been flagged. Or Carrollton. Grapevine used to be kindler and gentler, but all that construction, the Grapevine Mills/121 boom, and the TMS blast on 114 made that agency ornery and hungry ... at least Southlake/Westlake/Roanoke is still relatively permissive ...

As someone that regulates and enforces laws (in a different realm), I understand how enforcement usually works. They try to target the biggest risk, this means school zones, residential areas, areas that have a high concentration of people or congestion, places that have high incidences of accidents (certain city locations) and so on. This kind of enforcement rarely happens on deserted roads or mountain roads unless the actions are endangering other people, this is why the tickets in these situations are often “written down” by the officer to a speed that wouldn’t require incarceration, even when it’s above. Some people just don’t get it and roll through stops in neighborhoods, speed through them, try to move 20+mph faster than the surrounding traffic, weaving in and out, and so on. Those are the idiots they are trying to catch and most likely, all of us have been that person at least at sometime in our life. The smart ones grow out of it before it costs a life.

Mmmm, not in my experience, as well as reputation and the experience of others I know. That very well may have changed since I rode/drove around there a ton, but I've not heard that from LEO friends of mine.
YMMV (Or, er, YSpeedsMV, LOL)
