What made you choose to own a BMW?

My first car is an e90. I didn't know anything about cars or BMWs for that matter when I bought it. I would have chosen a different model over my 328 if I had more knowledge about them.

But, ever since driving one and owning one it has made me enjoy driving like never before.

What made you choose to own one?

All the hype from other people that had BMWs. I always owned japanese cars. I consider them very well built cars. I have to say that the E90 is a very well built car that performs excellent. If you are a DYI its even better.

The 335 did not really impress me with speed. I had a 400 + HP built mazdaspeed that was a rocket. But the 335 drives much better.

True that, my grandpa had an old 7 series with the V8. Always took really good care of it, I thought that was really cool.

Yes!

The powerplant. Love the noise, the pull, and the instant power of the N54 and N55, especially the 335is DCT gargle on downshift with the top down.

Fit and finish, especially the off-color leather stitching and brushed aluminum panels. Nobody does it better, and everything else seems plain in comparison.

The BIG A** BRAKES. Why does a circular slab of metal make me smile?

Staggered low-profile tires, suspension, and corner carving

I can have an exhilarating S1000R-like experience, have my family with me, & drive it to work every day

Premium sound

The modding potential on the n54 platform and a natural progression from a '92 eclipse GSX awd that is fully built --> e90 335xi FBO as I get older and need a more mature ride.

Since I was an ankle biter always heard people saying BMW's cost so much to fix/unreliable and had to be rich to own one.......so that's how the BMW branding indoctrination began!

The bloody 16v Jetta gti MK2, it went across two lanes of oncoming traffic, up a grass bank, hit a tree passenger side on rolled one & half times & ended up on its side. I climbed out of the open sunroof with nothing more than a few bruises

I was being a bit sardonic as there have been so many reliability related threads lately.

These cars are great, right up until they aren't, but if you keep your wits about you they're still pretty great.

I feel your pain. My starter went out exactly 2 months after I got my car, all I heard from my dad for the week following until I fixed it was shit like; "You know what BMW stands for? Break my wallet!" or "It should be called a B-M Trouble you".

That was discouraging at first but I'm glad I didn't listen to his negativity.

Long story short, fuck dad jokes. BMWs aren't crazy expensive to maintain like people think if you do the repairs yourself. Follow scheduled maintenance and you have a really reliable car.

Plus, when people who have that stigma towards BMWs see you driving a functioning one, it makes it that much cooler to own one lol.
