Is this a good deal for a 2011 335is??

Hey guys, I'd love some opinions on this car:

https://www.carmax.com/car/15179847

Do you think it's a good buy with 71k on it? I love the looks, but I'm wondering if the e92 is starting to get a bit "dated"?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

I would definitely check to see what has been replaced on that motor. thats around the mileage that water pumps go and not too long before turbos. Is that oil on top of the snorkel? great looking car though (aside from the blacked out roundels... not a fan)

This being 2011 335is makes it better deal than your 2009 335i convertible.

Thanks for the advice so far guys! So the turbos are possibly going to need replacement soon at this mileage??

I'd be super pissed with the oil on top there in the engine bay, check to see if the OFHG and/ or VCG have been replaced. That will likely give way before the turbos (are you hearing any wg rattle from the turbos) check codes and ask about the recall history... imo ALL recalls should be taken care of (airbag, frm footwell module, HPFP would be a huge stretch) Also previous owner added m3 lip spoiler, check its color matched specifically for that bsm shade and the wheels are 18" instead of 19". Otherwise if carfax is clean get the fucker!

If you think it’s dated then don’t buy it. Buy something that you will enjoy for years to come.

I don't necessarily think it's dated - until I look at the 435i, and then I say, "well maybe a little." But then sometimes I look at the 435 and think it's too "pretty" lol. OMG guys, HELP! I'm the most indecisive person on the block!

I just bought a 40k Mile 335is, 6MT, for 19,900. I got lucky and found the autotrader add before they put pics up. I called the dealer (Audi dealer in Michigan...I'm in Cali) before they posted pics. They sent me pics and carfax (CPO, clean)...I put down $500 before they sold it to someone else. Dealer said it had just been traded in on 16 Vette. With that said, this is a rare deal on such a clean, low mileage example.

No, turbos should be fine for quite some time.

71k -

Things I'd be concerned about :

Water pump & thermostat

Wastegate rattle

Suspension (front & rear shocks)

Brakes (rotors & pads)

Power Steering Fluid (was it changed out at 50k)

There shouldn't be any oil leaks, at this point. Probably by 90k though, the OFHG, rear main seal & valve cover will be leaking, but that's the nature of beast when talking about the N54. The megatronic seal will probably be leaking too for that matter. If not by 90k then by 100k for sure.

It's nice car, but I'd have a few thousand dollars in the bank for maintenance and repairs over the next 30,000 miles.

thanks for the great advice guys!

One more thing: I'm guessing I'll need to get this car walnut blasted (assuming the original owner never did it)?

Nice looking car, but the price seems a tad steep to me given the mileage.

I don't know how Carmax operates; do they allow for some negotiation on price? If they are firm at $21K, I would pass unless you REALLY want the car.

As for something to be considered "dated" by some, I would not let that prevent you from buying something you like and would enjoy. I like some of the older BMWs myself, and I know there are many who share the same taste.

As for maintenance stuff, I'll defer to the more knowledgeable members on the board. If you're serious about the car, you might see if Carmax will let you borrow the car for a pre-purchase inspection somewhere. If the PPI reveals some work that needs/should be done, that might give you leverage on the price.

Good luck!

Good call. It's supposed to be done every 36k.

If you can DIY, buy the equipment for around $200.00 and do it yourself. This way you can do it anytime you want.

Look into Rob Beck PCV and cap and a catch can.

BMS or Mishimoto

I'd also run 2 bottles of 20 gallon Techtron formula in. Row (2 tanks of gas in a row w/ 1 bottle each ) and clean up the injectors.

20k for a 70k mile car seems a bit steep to me. I got my car with 89k miles and 1 year and 2 months later I'm already at 109k.

I don't know how often you'd drive it but the higher your mileage the more susceptible to problems you are I feel.

They haven't done the airbag recall on it either.

So I found a car similar to the one you posted: According to the listing, it's at 72K miles and the asking price is $16,440.

http://www.luxuryimportsusa.com/deta...-16957744.html

No, it's not the IS model so it's only 300hp instead of 320hp. And it has xDrive; I know this can be a negative for some folks. However, it does appear to have a fair number of options added.

To repeat what I said earlier: I think 21K for the car you posted is too high, especially after I found a similar vehicle for over $4,000 less. Hope that is helpful.

P.S. I'm not associated with luxuryimportusa in any way.
