Stiffer Gas Pedal

In the never-ending quest to make my ultimate driving machine exactly that, I am hoping that there is a way to make my gas pedal stiffer. The car is a 2011 335i.

I hope that someone here has done this or has some knowledge about it. Please do share!

I don't intend for this to be a thread on the merits of a stiffer gas pedal but I predict that curious minds will want to know my reasons. This car will be seeing a lot of track time. I come from the 911 world and the performance cars that I have driven before have always had fairly stiff pedals, which I find helps tremendously for controlling the car, particularly when getting thrashed around in the corners.

Thank you for reading!

There aren't any aftermarket pedals for these cars and being drive-by-wire you don't have a throttle body spring to overcome/adjust.

I haven't looked at the pedal return mechanism, but you might be able to replace the return spring with one that is stiffer.

Suggestion above may work, I've never opened a pedal module to see what's inside. Re-tuned pedal might go a long way as an alternative or in conjunction though. Stock "normal" pedal is essentially 50-100% request at 30-70% pedal depending on RPM and sport mode pedal is even worse: 70-90%+ between just 30-45% pedal. It makes the car feel snappy just driving it around, but not exactly ideal for predictable control via just the accelerator.

You'll need some type of flash utility, but plenty of threads and info out there on linear throttle mapping, just do a search.

Thanks guys. Yes, the car actually already has an MHD tune but I overlooked the linear throttle option when flashing. Linear throttle would definitely be the way to go.

If there is nothing aftermarket available for this, I wonder if maybe the 335is or M3 has a stiffer gas pedal which can be switched over?

Nah, I have a 335is and AT/DTC pedal assembly is the same P/N used in non-M 1/3/X3/X5/X6 2006-2014. There have been a couple superseded P/Ns along the way, but they're essentially nothing special. M's have a different P/N, but probably the same pedal for twice the money in reality lol I had an E92 M3 also, pedal didn't seem like anything special, but two totally different animals for what happens when you modulate it.

Linear throttle option should help with the pedal, but with OTS maps, you're stuck with whatever it is. If you plan to track often, custom tune will let you tailor pedal request and torque/power that goes with the requests to suit your track driving and for your specific car, fuel, environment.

Interesting. I'm new to MHD. So I can't set the tune for linear throttle without getting a custom map? I was hoping it would just be an available option when flashing with MHD.

How does one go about getting a custom map?

I believe linear throttle is a flash time option like cold start delete and exhaust burbles so you don't need a custom tune to do it. Keep in mind this is the N54 section and you have an N55. I don't know, maybe N54s need a custom map to get linear throttle but I'm pretty sure we (N55 people) don't. Of course you can always go to Twisted Tuning for a custom tune if you want.

It's a flash time option on N54 too, but the values are fixed. Their idea of linear may not be yours or their may be other things that pop up with the different request changes that could use massaging. Just give it a go and see.

Plenty of tuners out there, check in the N55 section since not all N54 tuners also do N55s, but Twisted should be a solid option if he does them...

The car is an N55 actually. I posted here because the N54 community is much bigger and I figured the gas pedal was the same.

So does the N55 MHD tune give a linear throttle option? Unfortunately I can't check myself this week.
