What was your debt after graduation? It seems like the gov. isn't giving out money like they used to.... From the way thing are going now, it looks like I'll be around the 100k mark.

Since i am going to Berkeley i won't have any debt b/c my parents are paying for all of it.
I also got into Cornell and if i was to go there for all four years I would have been $100K in debt after graduation b/c i would have to pay $25K per year out of my pocket.

Neither of the schools offered any financial aid.

$0... i came here with full Scholarship(for both undergrad and grad).
for books, i used Google... so, spent really low on college-related expenses.

None, delivered pizza the entire time. Some families are thrilled when that first person goes to college; mine thought it was a waste of time and money, and that my high school diploma was adequate to find a job and get out of the house.

It's funny in hindsight how unsupportive everyone was back then. My family only grudglingly let me live at home, on the condition I pay rent (3 other siblings lived at home, all working but none going to school - rent free for them). On the job, I used my two weeks of vacation for finals week each semester - and fought every semester with my boss to get the week off.

I think that's great that you put youself through school despite the challenges. I was fortunate that my parent were very supportive of me going to college. Now that I am in a position where I hire people, I tend to have a preference for those actually put themselves through school. I find that these people have a higher level of initiative and generally better work ethic. Hate to say it, but the last guy I want to hire is that guy who's parents paid for all of his tuition, living expenses, trips, AND a nice care.

It was do-able back in the 80s. I'm blown away by what school costs now.

I guess my school wasn't that expensive compared to most. My 4 yrs. of school tuition and room/board I ended up making back within the first 4 months after graduating.

berkeley is a damn good value (relatively speaking) when compared to cornell or the other ivies...

unbelievable the tuition at some of these places...i think at cornell the undergrad tuition was 40k or so (not counting room and board). unfortunately, they dont have an endowment as big as harvard or yale, so if your parents are middle class, you'll probably have to go w/ some private lender loans.

Hey i go to Berkeley too and I'm from LA .... And drive a BMW 3 , but ill be 20,000 in debt by the time i get out

go bears, i went to cal as well, and i've always felt that it prepped me pretty well for grad school..

Free tuition by California Veterans something or another. Dad did 24 years in the Marines and got a disability rating so my tuition was free as long as I went to a state school. Something to look into for those of you with parents that retired from the military.

I won't be having any except my M3 finance payments...have a good scholarship for school and my dad pays the rest. Only one year left of that ftw
