Wing mirror glass cracked
Hi, I was trying today to remove the wings mirror covers to paint it and I broke the glass .. the mirror is working fine but not it's cracked as you can see in the picture.
My car is BMW 320d GT 2017 by the way. I'm checking how much cost to replace it and I'm starting to be very worried, since I though ok it's just the mirror can't cost too much .. but reading it looks like it could £300 etc.. I think just replacing the glass itself should be enough .. and I have seen some different places where it could fit for a reasonable price https://www.cardoormirrors.com/bmw/3...or-mirror.html https://www.wingmirrorman.co.uk/wing...odel&order=ASC but to be honest, not sure first which one it should be since I suppose it will have heating but not sure if it's 2 pins-4 pins etc.. I know best it should be take off the glass but I don't want it right now until I can confirm which possibilities that I have etc.. Worst scenario I have compressive insurance but with £175 excess and also I would not like to use since it will affect my bonus. Someone has same issue ? How did you manage? Thanks in advance. |

It takes no time at all to remove the glass. Use a plastic trim tool, pencil or chopstick to pry the mirror plate out - it snaps onto a round plastic base. Others have done the same thing while changing mirror caps so don't feel bad! You can perform a "search" to see which mirror plate they selected. You'll want it to be heated & auto-dimming if that's what you have - you won't find a good one for 8 quid! As new as your car is, I'd look for an original one from a BMW breaker. Good luck!
From factory repair manual: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...soles/FCHJ4ny2 You can find the part # at the link below. Go to Section 51 - Vehicle Trim, then 51 07 - Outside Mirror: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sele...=GT&model=320d

Looking at the first one you posted you'll need the last mirror listed there. The ones you see for 8 quid is just the glass piece itself, meaning you'll have to separate your existing broken one from the base. Personally I have no interest in working with broken glass to save 30 quid. Get the one that has it attached to the base, then when it comes in all you do is pop out the old one (you don't have to be gentle since it's already broken) and insert the new one. As John said above, it happens a lot, don't feel bad. It happened to me in fact and I had to pay $100 USD to replace it!

Thanks @John in VA and Kailec... Finally I bough this one: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/van-wezel/8677227 which with delivery was around £33 .. I've just put in and fit perfectly :-) .. therefore no big deal .. I though it could be hundred of quid just for a single glass .. By the way, I already paint the wingmirror covers and I was able to revome the covers without remove the glass and obviously without broke the clips :-)
Thank you so much for your help. |
