Fob stopped working

The entire Comfort Access system is down, not only that, the remote lock/unlock also stopped working on both fobs. No code stored any where and no warning lights on. Don't know what this is related to as the CA and remote entry utilizes two different antennae and circuits.

Thanks man. I think I had it figured out, but need to go back to the shop tomorrow to test my hypothesis. It's most likely not related to the doorsills, but will ask them to check those out too.

The wiring is the same on both. Just that there are two more doorsills than the E90

Update: Found no wires unplugged, spliced, or cut when we inspected it on again Monday.

Day 1: Took the car in for service today and they couldn't quite figure it out yet. Will keep updating this.

could be a bad key, could be a bad CA module, could even be a bad door handle...

Highly unlikely that both fobs died at the same but the car would still read them and turn over the engine. Could be a bad CA module or door handle, but still wouldn't explain why the remote lock / unlock won't work. So, this is still a mystery to me and the dealership.

Mini update:

Day 2: After another full day at the dealership, they cannot not isolate / locate anything wrong with the car. No codes stored in any module, and no harnesses unplugged. Problem submitted to BMWNA for further analysis.

At my request, they also attempted to remove to illuminated doorsills, which they believed was the culprit of the malfunction, and the malfunction did not correct itself, just as I suspected.

Day 3: Service Department is open today, still waiting for BMWNA to chime in.

I suspect that this is more of a coding / module issue. I asked them if they could try to reflash the DME on the car, but the SA thought that I was crazy and told me that they have to adhere to "protocols". I guess I'll wait for BMWNA to chime in.

Day 4: Had not heard from the dealership yet. This is slowly getting frustrating. I'll probably call the SA up again in the afternoon and see if they came up with anything.

No phone call from SA, wife called in for me due to me having my SHELF exam tomorrow. They said that BMWNA is now involved, but at this point they still have no idea what is going on.

Day 5: About to leave for my SHELF exam, and will likely check in with the dealership afterwards and report back.

According to SA, the shop foreman and service manager are invovled, and if they found that the problem is related to "aftermarket parts" or "installation", BMW will not cover this under warranty. However, they still have not been able to find ANY problem wrong with the car as to the reason why the remote and CA went offline on their own.

Dropped off a list of modifications to the dealer. There are no modifications done to the vehicle's electrical system, other than the illuminated doorsills, which they have eliminated as a cause of the malfunction. Talked to the tech directly and he states that he has been closely working with BMWNA to get to the bottom of this. At this point, it doesn't appear the malfunction is in any way related to the "aftermarket" parts.

Day 7: Solution has been found. Seems like a fuse that is specific to the antenna system is blown. The dealer is replacing the antenna module tomorrow just to be safe. The car should be ready tomorrow night.

Are they still making noises about "aftermarket parts?" Glad you at least have a fix on the way. Thank for documenting this, by the way.

Nope, everything is covered under warranty because it is caused by a bad antenna module and it has nothing to do with the "mods".
