Anyone driven the new XC60?

This is a strong contender as our next car, either replacing my wife's or mine (eek!).

Has anyone had a drive in one?

Will probably head over to a dealer at some point to take a look.

No but they look good and get good reviews. Engine choice a bit suspect though?

Some crazy cheap lease deals on these recently. Would make me very wary of buying as depreciation will take a hit so a cheap lease gives you some protection.

What's the story? You love your 440 no? It's not that old as I recall (not that that ever stopped anyone on here chopping in, lol). Would you VT it?

Yep, drove a T8 top of the range. Very nice car, very comfortable, nicely designed. T8hybrid is very rapid off the line too. My daughter loved it and preferred it to the Velar they also had on demo....until she did a 300 mile round trip in it and the hybrid made little difference and suddenly 27mpg hurt.

I liked it but preferred my SQ5, although as a nice refined cruiser with some style it ticks a lot of boxes especially in T5 form.

Residuals not as strong on old model - and discounts on new one now higher suggesting similar for new model. Although you can get 15% off a Q5 these days so maybe all residuals are suffering....

That's the biggest drawback that I can see. Four cylinder only is very dodgy at those kind of prices

Yep, still hooked on the 440 and it's only 18 months in and just over 8k miles. Every single journey is still a pleasure for me and the engine is incredible.

This is more long term and getting something SUV shaped for practicality. Probably two options - a lower spec new car and keep the 440, or a high spec new car and keep the wife's as a run around.

By long term, I mean not likely to change either in the next few months although might look into the cheap leases that davyk31 mentioned - a lease to replace my wife's car could be tempting.

I was hoping you had done the comparison T8 is very costly up front, although the mpg wouldn't worry me. Based on list prices though, I think a T5 would be the one I would pick.

Seen a couple of SQ5s on the road recently, they look spot on - one was in your red, I can see why you chose it! Would definitely compare one.

Interesting re depreciation as I was imagining Volvos to be as good as it got, purely based on the older xc60 and xc90. Although if we bought a high spec SUV it would definitely be a very long term keeper for 5 years plus.

If you test drive one would be interesting to hear your thoughts, I am going to start looking at a SUV mid this year, but prob the next size up, X5 or Q7 for the 7 seats.

The lack of 3.0+ in Volvo’s line up does put me off, isn’t the X3 or Macan making your short list?

The real depreciation between best discounted price and residual on the old XC60 wasn't bad as there were 20% discounts to be had and volumes were manageable.... discounts much lower to start with on new shape but now creeping up.

T5 is a good engine - I just wanted something a bit more "special" thus time. Certainly wouldn't discount one from my list next time.

Glad to see the forum is doing its stuff - up from a 40k to 48k XC60, now the Macan gets a mention, we will soon be saying you need minimum GTS with a few extras and we are at £65k spend....

New xc40 a good car but boot space a bit limited....

If you keep yours and replace the wife's I would also look Tiguan - with the Golf GTi engine, R line trim.

Don't worry, the first spec I put together for the T5 came in at £53k. And that was discounting HUD because I'd rather keep the heated screen. T5 inscription pro with a few bits added.

Macan - I've already taken a look, really like it and it would have to be a GTS big money for a mid size suv though and I actually really like the ice cool Volvo image.

Macan on the short list, but pricey and the tech inside feels dated after the F36. X3 nice, but something about it doesn't grab my attention, possibly just that having two BMWs means a change feels interesting (whether we keep mine or not). Does have six cylinders though.

A test drive of the XC would be interesting and I might arrange one.

£53k will put you in an SQ5 with a few extras, Macan will be £65k with no discount.

I also like the Volvo image, and the seats - had 4 previous Volvos when the image wasn't as good but at 35k a year one of the most important elements of a car is the seat....

Carwow offers suggest 13% off, so yes the discounts are already pretty high.

I had a very brief drive of the new XC60 R Design Pro when we started to look at potential replacements for the Golf GTD.

I had already driven the BMW 335D and wanted to see what other options were about.

It was a lovely car, the R-Design interior is stunning and the ride was very comfortable with the air suspension.

Problem at that point was no discounts and high APR on the finance options.

We test drove an XC90 and a Q7 back to back. I didn't like the look of the Q7 and really liked the look of the XC90. I went with the intention of appeasing the wife......and then thought we'd buy the XC90 anyway.

We bought the Q7. The experience behind the wheel and the quality inside meant it was head and shoulders above the XC90. The engine was part of it too.

Good discounts on both now, XC90 had hardly any for ages, but now they've started with them you can get nearly £9k off a D5 R Design.

Saw a deal on the D4 R-Design earlier at £399 deposit and £399 a month

Not the most inspiring engine I'd imagine but seems decent value

Been in a SQ7, that was very nice and defo can see the appeal, I think it will come down to Q7 vs X5 for me, but still will go and drive the Volvo and Landy’s.

I missed out on 6 cyl with my f30, think I need to scratch that itch with the next car, prob will be nearly new or maybe even older, do stupid mileage, and PCP doesn’t normally work for me on the numbers
