OEM Exhaust Tips on 2007 335i

I took my 2007 335i e90 to a local muffler shop to have 4" tips installed. We both thought that the OEM tips were pressure fitted in place. At first we started to lightly tap them from the backside to push them off with a piece of wood and a hammer. They wouldn't budge. Then we used WD40 and tried again. Nothing. Then used harder blows. Still nothing. Skipped the piece of wood and used the hammer straight onto the tip. Still nothing. I've seen YouTube vids where a gentle tap released the tips, and others where they had to cut. Did BMW have two ways of holding the OEM tips in place?

The models that had pressure fitted tips were the F series I believe every E series were welded on.
