Advice needed.

I am going to cut off the secondary cats and put resonators in their place.

I got 1792 Vibrant Performance Resonators.

My plan is to score the exhaust pipe with an exhaust chain type cutter and use a sawzall with a Diablo metal blade. I have done this before when I installed the 335is mufflers. The sawzall went through the SS exhaust pipe like a hot knife through butter. The best part is that the blade did not jump around due to it being scored prior to being cut.

The oem pipe is 2.36" wide. The 1792 resonator is 2 5/8" in outer diameter.

So, I plan on sliding the oem pipe about an inch or so inside the 1792 resonator, using some exhaust pipe dope and then clamping the 1792 resonator to the oem clamp with a 2 bolt SS sleeve clamp.

With the outside of the 1792 resonator being 2 5/8" I THINK I need a 2.75" exhaust clamp.

I have a 2.5" clamp and there is no way it will fit around the resonator and clamp down correctly...

Also, I am thinking I need to buy 4 pieces 2" long each of 2.5" SS exhaust pipe and slide them over the oem pipe with pipe dope inside of these sleeves, so the 2.75" exhaust clamp tightens down in a level manner.

Any thoughts ?????

I really hate exhaust clamps and pipe dope. I'd really suggest getting it welded at a local muffler shop. They have the tools and techniques to get everything matched up properly.

Ok. Ordered 1792 Vibrant resonators so they could slide over the oem exhaust pipe. These resonators are 2 1/2" in diameter.

They cost around $100.00 w/ free shipping. The install was about $100.00 with a small, SS 2 1/2 pipe bent to about a 45 degree angle.

My car has 335is mufflers, redtail 2 1/2" X pipe, 1790 Vibrant resonators, secondary cat delete, Afe oiled Momentum GT 2 & AFE air scoops.

Cold start - please ignore the wind noise 😀

Warm start

No rasp & Hwy drone is cut in half.

I'd say the engine runs a little smoother at idol when it's warm & it seems quicker off the line (just a little)

They make ultra quiet ones too that have been used as mufflers. I think there is a video on YouTube with a guy that has straight pipes back with ultra quiet resonators on the end being used as "mufflers" on a 335i.

I want to say they are 18" long, but I can't remember

Just drop down the exhaust and support the mufflers with the jack & a 1 x 4.

Use a sawzall with a Diablo carbon tipped metal blade. Hot knife through butter !
