They look shiny. Looks like something aftermarket to me.

The second picture shows aftermarket resonators in place of the secondary cats. This is a common mod and nothing to worry about.

The first picture looks normal to me, I doubt someone went through the trouble to mess with the stock downpipes. I did notice the hardware isn't stock though. Looks like someone removed the downpipes and didn't use the OEM nuts so they might have installed catless downpipes or took them off for maintenance.

They could be gutted but to find out they need to be removed. Or at least drop the exhaust part and peek into the DP's. Is easy to gut them. No cutting and welding required. Seems like the oil pan and rear main seal are in good order. So that's good.

thanks everyone, I drop the exhaust to check it out. I'm having trouble with the catalytic monitor not clearing, that might have to do with it.

It could be the o2 sensors.

I could be mistaken but those look to be secondary cats.
They have no effect on O2 readiness.
They are behind the second set of O2 sensors.
If you are having issues with the O2 sensors being ready, make sure they are good.

If you have more than 100K miles and are having issues with readiness, they might be bad.

I had O2 sensors go before 100K miles and most recently replaced all mine about two years ago.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but when I replaced my O2 sensors I used this post: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=726481

Maybe there is something wrong with me but I was slightly disappointed to find no gutted cats in this thread.

Mixing up the signals in the post cat O2s can cause codes as well (either installing the O2 in the opposite pipe or mixing up the connectors).

If you have the MHD app/cable you can check what flash the car is running. You might also be able to check with INPA but I don't have experience with that side of it

I'm not 100% sure on this but it tells you the name of the flashed file so if it's not stock it should be somewhat obvious. Or pull logs and look at the boost to see if it's stock
