Just got the Stage II 6AT Fix: Dinan re-flash
First, here is what I determined went wrong the with the failed Stage II Revision, and how I was tricked into thinking I still had my boost:
On the initial failed Stage II Revision, I took my car in expecting a major throttle response change. When I got the car back, there indeed was a MAJOR throttle response change. It felt like the stock throttle mapping again, more or less. I thought that this feeling was part Dinan's plan. It had been so long since I had experienced the stock configuration, that having the immediate response down low again tricked me into thinking I still had my Dinan boost. I just thought that the application/presence of boost had just been re-arranged, if that makes sense. I thought that the mid-range torque surge when going WOT was subdued or less noticeable only because the power was kicking in earlier, not because I was only at 8.8 psi. As the days went by, I started to notice strange things. I could routinely break traction when going WOT when cruising with the original Dinan flash, but with the initial Stage II Revision, it didn't happen once in 2 weeks. And "D" mode, which I didn't really play with until several days after the initial Stage II re-flash, was a complete DOG. Finally, Vase noticed something very important that I eventually experienced as well. When I would get on the gas/throttle aggressively, the revs would climb rapidly and the engine would roar, but if you paid careful attention, the speedo was just NOT keeping up/climbing like before. Finally, the 6AT Fix: Today, I got the 6AT Stage II fix re-flash. I'm going to keep it simple. It's awesome. The revised throttle mapping it turns out does NOT feel like stock. It is definitely noticeably more responsive than the original Dinan flash, but nowhere as dramatic as the change I experienced from going to the original flash back to stock. Much smoother early power delivery. The power/boost is available down low for sure, and when cruising and going WOT, the freight train mode is definitely still there. I was able to again easily break traction several times on the way home. FINALLY, I was able to get shoved back into my seat with some authority. Funkdoc has already provided an awesome review of this re-flash, so I'll stick with keeping it simple. This flash has all the positives associated with the original, with better throttle response and more power from the get-go. |

Thanks man, I will. Yeah I spoke with Dinan out in CA and they informed me that they sent out the fix UPS air early this week to all 160 dealers around the country and they should all have it by now. The person I spoke with was extremely helpful. I was very pleased by the customer service. Also, the guy in charge of all the Dinan parts at my dealership is awesome, very knowledgeable and professional.

No problem! I also inquired about the potential ordering of a particular FMIC while I was at the dealer as well...
I know, I had to let that out. Needed to express the fact that I indeed know the difference between 8.8 and 13 and didn't flush 2k down the toilet. |

OK I am dying for seat of the pants report of Rev 2. Stg II vs Stg III impressions.
For those of us who are wondering, anyone go this route yet? I am thinking of more mods like maybe intake (seems to get more juice than exhaust yet way cheaper.) Stage III might be un-economical unless there is an appreciable difference.

Not to derail the thread, but all this talk leads me to ask...anyone know how they are doing with MSD81? Not fair that all you 80 guys get the benefits...

Anyway, yes, they did crack it. Orb and funkdoc provided and confirmed all of this information. I'll try to find the thread where it is and send you the link so we don't get this thread . |
