Which Intercooler?

Hello all,

Trying to decide on which intercooler to go with. I'm looking at vrsf, and I'm trying to figure out if going with the 7in FMIC is going to benefit me more or not compared to the 5in.

See my signature below for list of mods. Only thing I plan on adding with the intercooler would be inlets, but that would most likely complete my build.

Thanks!

7" will outperform the 5". Worth going to 7" especially since they are the same price.

Do you track the car or do you just use the car as a DD? I think "how" you the car is used should be a major factor regarding what performance part is purchased.

The 7" will require some cutting and modifying around the trim that surrounds the radiator, in order to make it fit. Get your dremel fired up ! The 5" will too, but there is a mere fraction of cutting that has to be done with a 5" vs installing a 7" FMIC.

I have the 7.5” stepped race VRSF intercooler and it is good. It kept IATs in check for 30min stints on the track.

I don't plan on tracking the car, maybe a few weekend trips to the drag strip from time to time. Sounds like I may be better off going with the 7". The only thing to note with the install is cutting around the radiator fan?

5" for street use, 7" for track.

I'd recommend reverting your intake back to stock for the time being, it will let your intercooler work more effectively. you really don't need those DCI's unless you have an upgraded turbo or are on a super aggressive boost setting. those cones are only making your intercooler work harder.

do you plan to do anything to your exhaust? you can try adding two resonators (such as vibrant) in place of where your muffler used to be - it'll sound really good.

In general yes, but it will depend on the core being used as well. Tube, bar, plate, density of fins and etc. If those are the same and price is similar then yes definitely go with 7" regardless of the application: street vs track.

My post was specifically referencing VRSF 5" VS 7" and was in direct response to the quoted OP.
