Motor Trend left YouTube!
I don't know if it's due to YouTube's new monetization restrictions or if they were just making more on their website/app.
I enjoyed watching Head 2 Head and Ignition, didn't really watch any of the other stuff. RIP MT, it was good while it lasted... |

You can watch for free....I just did, or you can pay for the premium.

Yup, completely free, just have to use their app, or website. You can pay for it if you want the newest episodes, but it looks like they are releasing them just as they would be if it were going to youtube.
The Hot Rod Garage episode I watched was free, they put about 1:30 seconds worth of ads in it, which were all ads for other Motor Trend shows anyways. They also had a couple of newer episodes that were locked, so you can either pay or wait. I see no reason to pay at this point, the content will be released per their normal youtube schedule it looks like. |

They want all of the monetization to go into their pocket, not just some of it. The balkanization of internet video is underway; be prepared to pay a lot of small fees instead of a single large one.

Makes me wonder what the cause of MT's change was (well, money of course, but why now).
That said, MT isn't the only one doing this and other channels are starting to test out their own platforms or moving onto others. |

All business as usual. Youtube is getting greedy these days.

I noticed they started shifting to MotorTrend on demand. I enjoyed watching their videos but not enough to cancel my Netflix account to pay for it. I am sure it was Johnny Lieberman’s idea. Just my hunch lol.

As long as they leave the MT retro videos on YouTube, I could care less. I do appreciate watching the retro videos on "supercars" of the past and realizing that most of those cars would be destroyed by today's average sport car. It's kind of mind blowing how acceleration times and braking distance have improved. That being said, I still wouldn't mind owning a 959 or an F40.

I subscribe to MTOD and personally think it's pretty awesome. They have apps for all the platforms I use, no ads and lots of content.

I didn’t particularly mind being pushed over to their website to watch videos and the fact that they made it clear that if i pay nothing, I get ads, if I paid, I got none. Fair enough. However, I am based in the U.K. and it is not actually possible to download the Motortrend app here, so it isn’t no longer possible for me to watch ANY of their shows. A great shame, I do so enjoy Roadkill, and their international fan base will have been slashed. Very short sighted decisions being made there.
I’m not sure if part of the reason is ‘Velocity’. They have a rep for messing around with car shows they buy into, usually for the worse. Also, I think we’ll see more of the big shows on Discovery channel. Same as Bitchin’ Rides and Fast n Loud, who are governed by the same entity. So it may not be all bad. But for YouTube, long live Mighty Car Mods. |

I dont see a point of them completely leaving YouTube, thats where the audience is. They used to get 1million plus views on all their videos- highly doubt the traffic on their site will generate even half that.
